During the Viking period, the Byzantines were undergoing a lot of political strife and the emperor's personal guard were not fully trusted. Many Viking mercenaries made their way south and were hired by the Byzantines, and they were so well respected by the Byzantines that the emperor hired them as personal guards. They came to be known as the "Varangian Guard". Snake saying hes a warrior of Miklagard is means hes was likely a member of the Varangian Guard.

2024-03-09 03:09:30 +0000 UTCThis episode is by far one of the heaviest one. Such an amazing episode with the god tier from Yutaka Yamada (song name: Rusty sword). We barely got to know this Gardar and yet we shed so many tears for him. I really love how Yukimura is trying to tell the audience about this cruel world. Going to battle for "Honor and wealth" when you already have what's important that is home, only to realise that when it's too late. 10/10 episode.
