Episode 85: Ike's Legacy of Ashes (EDS 17) [VIDEO]

In this video version of the episode, we close out the Eisenhower years. Specifically, we look at Eisenhower’s policies in Cuba and Congo—as well as how he made weak, half-hearted attempts to respond to the threats posed by the dangerously unaccountable CIA and the murderously greedy military industrial complex. As you will see, Ike’s was indeed a legacy of Ashes!

This is the 17th installment of our Empire and the Deep State series--an in-depth exploration of my new book American Exception: Empire and the Deep State. I am again joined by series co-host Ben Norton of Multipolarista as well our own Seamus McGuinness who is producing the series.

Special thanks to Dana Chavarria for the sound engineering!

The Dillon family is Wall Street nobility. I have not done a ton of digging into them. Perhaps try Catherine Austin Fitts' work here: https://dillonreadandco.com/ I have only heard her speak of these essays, and sometime she goes into areas that I would avoid, but you may some interesting details about Dillon in here. Idk exactly what you mean by "head of the snake," btw--or even which father and son you had in mind. O. Charles Dillon was JFK SecTreas and also advised Ike on foreign policy, including supporting the assassination of Lumumba.

I’m happy to pay for all manner of left wing podcast chicanery (and, in fairness, struggle toward understanding) with the minimum but it’s only with this project that I truly felt obligated to support at a slightly higher level out of principle. The serious legitimation of deep politics is more important than doom porn, frankly, and when done with this level of skill and cache, not only edifying but actually all the more exhilarating. Aaron, I did wish to use the interactive element available here to ask about the Dillon father and son vis a vis JFK. Have you had a long look at them on the pod? Or could you point me in the right direction on the book front? My instinct is that one of them, likely Dad, is the head of the snake. Reading Whitney Webb right now in search of more.
