Episode 84: Denouement: Allen Dulles, Sukarno, JFK, and G30S w/Greg Poulgrain

Aaron talks to the tireless and iconoclastic historian of post-colonial Indonesia, Greg Poulgrain. In this final part, they discuss how JFK, Dag Hammarskjold, and Sukarno were unable to stop Allen Dulles’ murderous grand strategy to turn Indonesia into world history’s most valuable neocolony—under imperial US auspices.

Greg Poulgrain teaches history at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. He is the author of The Genesis of Konfrontasi: Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia, 1945-65, The Incubus of Intervention: Conflicting Indonesia Strategies of John F. Kennedy and Allen Dulles, as well as the more recent JFK vs. Allen Dulles: Battleground Indonesia.

Special thanks to Dana Chavarria for the sound engineering!

Short answer: The CIA is the mafia for the US empire/oligarchy. They do the work in these countries so that the oligarchy can plunder and exploit to the max. That's why the oligarchy created the CIA and why the CIA does what it does.

What I didn't quite gather ‑ due to the long term, convoluted nature of the machinations ‑ is the part the owners and execs notably of Freeport took in the early stages in order to get hold of the Indonesian resources later. Does the CIA do pro bono crime on behalf of US aligned capital in general, and the ultimate beneficiaries are determined subsequently by the invisible hand of the market (and their deftness at corruption)?

poulgrain's got a bit of an impish/yoda vibe

Idk but try to refresh the Patreon page and then just down load the mp3 maybe?

He was a CIA asset before his forces shot the President's plane, sparking mass killings in reprisal and eventually leading to Kegame's installation as basically a US puppet.

I'm having trouble with the wrong audio file issue. My podcast player seems not to want to refresh and listening off patreon is hard on my phone. that's my complaint lol.

You get strong Mobotu vibes from Paul Kagame, has there been any reporting on his relationship with the US? It's hard to imagine he'd be in power for as long as he has without tacit US support, the way he has treated regions of the Congo would also suggest some kind of American approval

fixed now...thanks!
