Trump Raid: Deep State or Justified?

One of the “Ethics” lawyers under Bush and Obama was the one rejecting an idea that there is a deep state. Well that makes sense I guess, haha.

2022-08-20 05:59:22 +0000 UTCI can’t remember my reasoning, but I went out of my way to support Comey’s actions, in real-time if I remember correctly. I wasn’t very political either (I’ll basically vote for anyone who builds nuclear reactors). My sentiment has always been though, that it will take the right mix of powers in the federal government to create progress towards The Dream, and this has always seemed most likely to happen from the actions of the few, as I have no hope for the majority or demographic blocs (and so the same with legislators). This requires any hope I have, as a minority, to live in ultra-concentrated seats of power, like in the federal courts and justice departments, or the Supreme Court if corruption is rampant and it is triggered into saving us from being a hopelessly failed state. This will look like the Court acting as a minority, which means honoring what minorities want: equality under the Constitution, and applying it without exception, which saves the world from our monopoly on violence. Having no hope in majority rule forces a belief in the possibility of public servants who will hold the offices that can counter our continuous history of criminality and corrupt institutions. The Office of Director of the FBI is one of those outposts of hope, along with the right Supreme Court (but not necessarily simultaneously), that is able to force us to live up to our ideals. I know how irrational this seems in the absence of American virtue. I think all I got right now is Gorsuch, whatever that means. So I can understand how Painter or anyone might get defensive and explain how they fulfilled their mandate as best they could.

2022-08-19 04:37:18 +0000 UTCDamn, I was hoping you were going to start off by pointing out the origin of the term “deep state” seeing how TRT World is the RT/RFERL of the Turkish government. Sorry this ended up being as long as it did, but that tends to happen once I get rolling so I suspect many of you will put it in the TL;DR category. I am somewhat familiar with Richard Painter & in the big picture of American politics & especially within the two-party cartel, he is actually a pretty fair guy and that is probably why he was in the Bush administration for less than 2 years. I think that his reply to the host’s question after Aaron’s segment is evidence of that. It sounded to me like his rebuttal when the host went back to him was more to the terminology “deep state”, which I hope that most of us here can agree the term has been co-opted and bastardized by the Trump/MAGA cult and colloquially has become a caricature of the entity that Peter Dale Scott was describing and which Aaron has continued the effort to shine a light on. I would venture to say that there are many DNC Democrats who would have been much more indignant about everything Aaron articulated, so I personally think it is important to at least give Painter some credit for that. On the other hand, Matt Tito was a total buffoon. I was not surprised to see that he was tuning in from Tampa, FL. His last bit where he says that the democrats thought that they were just going to be able to sneak in and out and it wouldnt turn into a huge story etc. etc. is preposterous on so many levels. I actually think there is a very good chance that Biden wasn’t briefed beforehand for multiple reasons, one being that he probably wouldn’t even remember it the following morning so why waste the time. Second because the people in the Biden administration are part of what I understand as the deep state in the sense that nearly all of them have been going through the revolving door in DC that goes between public & private institutions for most of their adult lives & taking part in that symbiotic relationship is an integral part of the “deep state”, as I understand it. I don’t claim to know what Trump had or didn’t have and if any of it was criminal, so I will wait and see what they come out with. I found Tito’s assertion that “the American people” are incredibly upset about the FBI to be a very hyperbolic one. I get the impression that the only Americans that are really wound up about it in any way are the people who tune into any one the 3-5 cable news channels that we have for a country of 330 million people. I would argue that is a relatively small percentage of the population. I can tell you that the three-minute highlight reel at the start of the program was the most cable news that I have watched in 4+ years, and watching just that 3-minute reel was enough to last me another 4 years. Most of the people I associate with in my life have no interest in talking about politics and it seems like there is a general weariness about Trump and aside from the cult of his followers, most Americans wish that he would just go away. I am no fan of Hillary Clinton but it is depressingly comical that a lot of the people who are crying foul essentially persecuted Hillary Clinton (a former First Lady & a former US Senator) for 4 years about Benghazi & her emails. That is in no way exonerating her but just pointing out the cognitive dissonance that is emblematic of most members & supporters of the Trump GOP.
