Episode 61: Imperial Hegemony (EDS Part 4)
Added 2022-07-30 02:05:44 +0000 UTC
We discuss the concepts of hegemony and empire in relation to the USA!
[We updated the file after a slightly incomplete file was missing...basically without the very brief intro]
This is Episode 4 of our Empire and the Deep State series--an in-depth exploration on my new book American Exception: Empire and the Deep State. I am joined by series co-host Ben Norton of Multipolarista as well our own Seamus McGuiness who is producing the series.
Special thanks to Casey Moore for the episode art and Dana Chavarria for the sound engineering!

I can't remember if this is the right episode, as I didn't have a chance to post these two thoughts immediately after listening, but they were stimulated by either the third or fourth in this series.
While DeGaulle would be happy with anything discomfiting the Anglo-Saxons, the accumulation of gold under his presidency could also be interpreted as a resumption of French interwar monetary policy. As I recall, they were sitting on a hefty pile of gold at the time of the 1929 Crash, and just kept at adding to it for a while afterward.
The British working class was fairly anti-imperialist in sentiment at least up to the Indian 'Mutiny', and probably into the last quarter of the nineteenth century. (One could propose that the popular racism of Britain might be anti-imperialist in origin rather than in pro-imperialist ideas of an inherent White Supremacy.) Also, if Corelli Barnett is to be believed, in the empire's autumnal phase after 1918 by all accounts the only genuinely profitable part under direct rule was Malaya.

Although I question the utility of theory when discussing human activity (in part because it smacks of determinism, although if presented as “if-then” or contingent then I suppose it avoids this pitfall), this was outstanding especially as historical overview of the interplay between theory & events & of the former’s development in light of the latter. 👏

We need an "enemies of the people" list (database), starting with David Rockefeller.

Theory?- What theory, we just need to start pointing fingers. The CIA/DIA are just the way the aristocracy bypasses elections.

It is definitely a key example. We do talk about them at different points in the book, so stay tuned for this in later episodes. Further down the road, we are planning to do a Gladio series which will certainly talk about the Years of Lead, P2, and the Moro assassination.

This is a great series. Thank you! It would be good if you could be incorporate the Italian situation in your analysis. It is a textbook case.

Well, even Clinton wanted to do some New Deal type stuff, but he was given "the talk" by Rubin and Greenspan...basically told his only choice was to be Reagan.

I think it's wishful thinking to image that US presidents come into office genuinely intending to do some good things or be their own man. These people are very carefully vetted and they have the examples of JFK and Nixon to help them remember who they actually serve.
