X-Men (2000) - FULL REACTION

I'm so glad I decided to see what all the hype was about with this movie. Logan is such an incredible character and the very real debate about whether mutants should be revealed or not to the public was super interesting. Enjoy :)

X-Men (2000) - FULL REACTION

Comments

please watch the others, they're so good!! can't wait for more reactions like this

Casper

The X-Men has always had a strong political subtext. By far the strongest real-world analogy to mutants are LBGTQ+ people. Unlike any other persecuted minority - but just like mutants - sexual minorities are born different (for the most part) than their own families, and therefore risk being rejected by the people closest to them if they reveal themselves. This is radically different than minority status based on skin pigmentation or religious practice (usually), where minority children face the same bigotry and persecution as their families and communities. X-Men is a great start, while X-2, First Class, and Days of Future Past are all excellent films.

I was named after Wolverine so the X-men movies/characters hold a special place in my heart and im so excited for you to dive more into the x-men series!

Logan

He was so brilliant in it! And a well-earned Oscar nom for Naomi Watts. I read that the real mom hand-picked Watts to play her.

Maisie

I agree with Oscar needing to react to "The Impossible"...it was Tom Holland's premier role at only 14 yrs old, and he was fantastic in it...and based on true events!!! Great film!

Brian Matthews

Great reaction as always...I was so excited to see your face in certain spots...and your "she is so bad ass" about Storm...she is my favorite...Halle Berry nailed her part...Storm's emotions, and Storm's stoic control until the tension builds to just the right moment....loved it!!! Her line "you know what happens to a frog when it is struck by lightning? Same as everything else!" IS the best......

Brian Matthews

If you haven’t seen it, I’d strongly recommend “The Impossible” or “Argo”—both movies based on a true story. :)

Maisie

I'm so happy you're watching the xmen franchise, I love those movies so much! I grew up with them, I remember going to the theater multiple times to see them 😁. Also I can't believe you missed the Stan Lee cameo 🤣. Happy New year everyone ☺️

Statmanjeff

Hooray! You are going to loooove X-Men: First Class for the background info on Charles and Erik.

Maisie

You will love Days of Future Past and First Class SO much

Mikkel Øberg

which is why it’s so universal and it transcends time!! unfortunately those are issues people somewhere are always going to be facing

Alicia Cue

yes! It's such a powerful metaphor for minorities and an equal society and the fear and anger that "regular" people feel for things they don't understand

Kate

Yessss! I can't wait for the X-Men journey 💜

msandiego

Cannot wait to finish this franchise out. Love X-Men

Out of the original 3 X-Men movies X2 is the best.

I loveee the way Sir Ian McKellen plays Eric! he’s sooo good and the character himself is so interesting and nuanced. like you really can’t blame him, or at the very least it’s understandable why he feels the way he does. being a child in the holocaust, he’s seen the worst of what humanity has to offer. and now seeing humans wanting to register and find mutants, i’m sure he can only see this going one way. the past does have a history of repeating itself. And i do think the later movies will definitely satisfy that want you have for them to go deeper into the political aspects of what’s fair to do with mutants. Also fun fact: the very first x-men comic came out one month after martin luther king gave his famous I Have a Dream speech which i just think is cool because Chris Claremont who took over writing the x-men comics, and is responsible for what’s probably the most popular and influential character building comics for all the characters really; growing up in the 1950s, he was clearly inspired by the civil rights movement in the 60s and that’s not only seen in the themes the x-men face in the comics, but also in the the skillfully inspired similarities of Charles Xavier to Martin Luther King, and Erik/ magneto to Malcolm X

Alicia Cue

This should be fun (before viewing)...(after viewing) it was and made me keen for more of the same.

Jim Schmitz
