Regarding recent events...
Added 2019-06-17 04:10:06 +0000 UTCAs those that are privy to the Discord Server are aware, last Thursday I woke to some reports to a couple of Patreon creators having their content leaked to the public. As I said in the announcement, I do not wish to name names of which creators or who facilitated the leaked content, but instead focus on what we can do about it moving forward.
After discussing this with a couple of other creators about what we should do moving forward, a few of the same things kept coming up. Both in best practises of how to run a project and minimise the potential for leaks. I'll be blunt with this, and there's no point beating around the bush anyway as it happens in the industry: Leaks can happen regardless.
What does that mean for you guys?
Well, there's only one immediate option for me as a creator, and that's to change the payment model. As it stands, people can pledge, grab the content, and unpledged without me getting anything despite them having full access to all the Patron-only content up until that point. I don't feel that's fair on me, or any of you if people cheat the system this way. However, moving to a charge per-month allows me to gate content from new people until they've paid for it once. Even if it's a dollar.
How does this effect the current payment cycle?
Honestly, Patreon wasn't overly clear in how this will be handled. From what I understand, it's going to work like this:
- If you were a Patron before the latest build went live, you'll be charged on July 1st for that content and again for the month of July in the same lot. (Effectively covering the cost of June and July in one lump sum)
- If you were a Patron after this point, you'll only be charged on July 1st and that will cover you for the month as far as what I put out.
It might work like that, it might not. If it just so happens it only charges existing Patrons only once then so be it. I'll wear that as a cost of learning how to best handle these things given the platform, and that's honestly fine. I will say that if anyone takes issue to this change, you're welcome to un-pledge with absolutely no hard feelings from me, whatsoever. I understand people aren't always fond of change but in this case it's just something that needs to be done.

Well, that's humanity for you. Still, pledging all the way. Fuck 'em!
2019-06-17 06:54:23 +0000 UTCChanging it like this sounds good to me since your consistent monthly updates won't likely change much anyway in how often/much we are charged. Sorry to hear that there have been issues with leaks though and hope that all gets sorted. You do what you gotta do and thanks for informing us.

2019-06-17 04:23:11 +0000 UTCIt's unreal that people feel justified in stealing content that they can legitimately get for a single dollar. Hand drawn art, in a niche genre, they can have for a dollar, and they still steal it. I'm a brand new pledge (just found you 2 nights ago), so I don't think i'll be really affected, but I have zero issues with a paygate if it means you get your due for your awesome work.
