February news (videos, community and more)
Added 2020-02-01 09:46:47 +0000 UTCHi guys! And welcome BoHamใ and Florian Marquardt :)
I wanted to let you know about the video's I'm working on, thinking about, and share some general news.
So first of all, thanks again for your support. Each and every one of you has chosen the $10 level or above, this is something I totally didn't expect. I'd like to celebrate this somehow, perhaps I could do a short Q+A video with your questions if you have any? Or we could schedule a multiplayer factorio session? What timezones are you all in? I'm at CET (+1).
Video release frequency:
I will try my best to bring out a video every 1-2 weeks. So far I've managed 1 every week, this is mostly because before releasing Biter Island ep.2, the playthough was finished and I had already sorted/edited the material I was going to use. I only needed to do the final editing round with the layover and text. Now with Tightrope, I'm playing 'live', so I need to do the entire process for every video (playing/recording, selection editing and story editing), and I want to keep the video quality/pace high/unchanged. On the plus side, I've got a quiet time coming up on my day job, so I won't need to put as much time into that!
Video's in the planning:
- Factorio Tightrope - new episodes (main focus)
- Minecraft SkyBlock failed runs/deaths compilation (slow process, lots of raw material on external disc)
Video ideas (feel free to make more suggestions):
- Factorio Biter Island - bonus round (slow process, lots of playtime needed)
- Factorio tutorial - how to launch your first rocket
- Factorio Megabase playthrough (in same style as Biter Island / Tightrope)
- Minecraft SkyBlock 50 Patron/viewer-submitted achievement run
- Minecraft SkyBlock tutorial
- Minecraft SkyGrid (map by SethBling), some sort of achievement run
- Possibly modded version of factorio, (perhaps seablock) however not soon as it takes some time to learn the new mechanics of a mod
And lastly, a bit of a technicality/technical story:
Payments will be valid for the upcoming month instead of the last one (january for free)!
Tomorrow I'm going to change the payment method to pay-up-front, which means the payment on the first of the month is now valid for the upcoming month of februari (currently it's valid for the previous month of januari.
You should not be double-charged (I've asked Patreon Support who confirmed this), it just means your payment from feb-1 is now valid for all of februari (and you keep automatic access to all benefits even if you choose to stop supporting during the month). It also means, january access was for free, which was my intention as I set up my account late january, and I didn't have much content. It doesn't feel right to charge for januari. I have to wait to feb-2 however to make the change, so new supporters don't get charged twice within a few days.
Ok, thanks for reading my book above, and I'm looking forwards to your comments and ideas :)
All the best!
Michael

Yes, that would work for me , however, I will not be available on the 22nd.
2020-02-07 15:06:49 +0000 UTCHmm, UTC -5 until +10 so far, that's a great range. I'm guessing a normal game would take about 8 hours to complete. OTOH, if we use Elijah's Deathworld idea, the game probably will last long enough that everyone has a chance to jump in at some point, but I'm unsure if I should do something like a 24h stream without any previous streaming experience haha. I guess a decent start time would then be ~'saturday morning UTC'.
