Dungeon Stone Revised!

One of the most common requests I get, and more then half of all the highest upvoted ideas is to port all my oldest tiles forward to OpenForge 2.0.  Well, I've started the process with this release.

The old dungeon stone set has been moved forward to 2.0, with full ability to use OpenLOCK/magnetic bases, or to be resized to inch/wyloch sizes.  Porting tiles forward is faster work then doing new designs, so this release has three tiles:

The tiles have numerous small improvements.  The largest of which is that they now support OpenForge bases, but the styling has been fixed some as well.  They are construction kit style (as basically all my new tiles are), so you can easily mix and match the walls or the floors with other sets such as wood, ruined or cut stone.  The texture has also been updated a fair bit based on the things I've learned in the intervening four years (wow) that I've been doing this project.  I think this new version of these tiles looks much better, and I'm happy to have them a part of the OpenForge 2 family.

I'm going to set about the long process of porting everything of the old style forward, but I don't want it to disrupt doing new things too much, so expect to see a release of this sort probably about only once a month.

Had another question, as I'm a big fan of the paint schemes that you do with your tiles and have been trying to mimic them on my tiles with my own personal touches. (oh how I would love to pick your brain sometime) I'm going to hazard a guess that you're using a black primer coat, zinc for the stone, and is that raw sienna I see on the contrasting stones? Am I missing anything?

thank you :-) I've learned a lot over the intervening years. Next set is the primary openlock walls, then following that I'll be doing doors.

I'm very happy to see this set getting a face lift, these are so much nicer than the originals. My hats off to you sir! (I will keep waiting patiently for a revamped door set, and maybe a...)

I've just gotta say that personally I really love the versatility that the mutlti part design gives. Over time it will allow people to build an exceptionally diverse collection. (Can also magnetize the joint of the walls to the bases to create more interchangeability).

OpenLOCK's solution to this is pretty fantastic. By having the walls and floors separate, it avoids the problem entirely. I just personally find it a pain to set stuff up at game time with it. OpenLOCK is fantastic for building your rooms ahead of time, but if you don't know where your PCs are going, I find the wall on tile stuff (with magnets) so much faster to lay out. I'll make sure that I always do keep a non glue version of the tiles available - I should go back and make sure that there's a non glue floor tile for ruined actually (I'm not sure I did one).

I get it, and I don't have a good answer to the problem. 2x2 Stone wall tile with floor (wood | cut stone | ruined stone) and base (none | ((Wood | Cut Stone | Ruined Stone | Plain ) | (OpenForge | Openforge/OpenLOCK | OpenLOCK/Openforge | OpenLOCK))... It's a ridiculous number of combinations.

Part of porting them forward is to also make native OpenLOCK versions like I did with Cut Stone and Ruined. Those tiles will be single piece. The biggest problem to overcome is getting all the combinations that people want. Stone with wood floors, using the dungeon stone floor with a ruined wall, etc - there's no practical way to make all the combinations, so what I've tried to do is compromise by making the OpenForge 2 stuff be pieces (since if you want to use magnets, you are already gluing) and make the OpenLOCK native pieces be single piece. I hope that's a reasonable compromise.

Glue sucks. Sorry. It's a pain in the butt extra step that can be avoided by printing the base and the tile together. It's also the reason I'm switching my tiles to use your fantastic design with OpenLOCK E_TRP type bases -- I can print once piece.
