Redemption Reacts to J-Hope (호석) - MAMA Live Performance

This song is very literal and personal for J-Hope. Money was tight growing up. His father didn't support his dream, but his mother did. To pay for his lessons, she took a job abroad (or at least far away from home). He feels a big part of his success is due to his mother and he wanted to thank her and let her know he wants to support his own family and their dreams. It's one of the most personal of BTS's songs. Can you imagine what it would be like to hear your son sing this in a stadium? Tearjerker...

we were all transported to the church with this one..I was almost clapping with you guys hahaha, btw I look for the lyrics of the song and send it to my mom, she loves it, the song also express my feelings towards her...this song also shows how down to hearth and humble J-Hope is, he pay homage to his mother, he is proud of her and all her sacrifices that also lead him of where he is now and to be the man he is now, what a great guy he is!

I think he was super emotional in this performance b/c his parents were in the audience. When watching the concert BTS asked Hope if his mom cried and he was like yes.

Doolset is my number one for lyrics and also bangtansubs which does video content they both provide context for language and cultural specific interpretation and meaning more than just literal 1 for 1 which doesn't quite work as far as accuracy in translation as a whole

Okay first- This song isn't actually connected to the BU, sure there are parts of this song that can be drawn to it and Hobi's fictional character's struggles.. BUT-
J-hope wrote this song with the help of PDogg and Primary, who also produced it... it's about him the real Jung Hoseok and him just wanting to thank his mom for all she did for him.
As much as I appreciate lyrics added to these videos, it's still worth a look at Doolsetbangtan for translations. Because some things were a bit off. Also references to another song, and some sayings were made which Doolset explains those.
So, for those who don't know-
Hobi started dancing when he was young, he was in the 6th grade. His father was completely and totally against it. Dancing was not a viable way to make money or have a good life in his father's opinions.
His mother saw how serious Hoseok was though, and... she decided she would support him. Hobi's mom worked 2 jobs, she literally moved to another town for a while when he was younger to work. She paid for his dance training, and supported him in what he needed for him to compete in competitions around Korea.
In the song he mentions how he took her 'mother's gift' for granted back then. 'Mother's gift' is in reference to the gift of giving life and raising a child to adult hood. It's called a mother's gift.
His mom and his sister were always his biggest supporters, when he auditioned and joined Bighit, they were still supportive. Hoseok's family had money trouble and he's talked about the time he gave up and went back home before they debuted. He thought it wasn't worth it.
If he had chose to stay home and not follow through, his mother would have worked hard all that time only for him to give up. He's spoken on these unhappy thoughts of his, and he's mentioned how he trusted RM and Suga the most back then and that's why he returned, but he also didn't want to waste all the effort his mother had made for him.
Hoseok is very close with his mom and it's in the lyrics- He's now telling her, he's successful, she doesn't have to work so hard anymore. Her son (him) can now take care of her.
Something Hobi did when he got his first big check around 2016 was to pay off his parents house in Gwanju. He then bought them a new car.
Even though Hobi's relationship with his dad was strained at first, His father came around when he was a trainee, he still worried about it being a reasonable job that could make his son's life easier.
Since around 2017 it was super common to see Hobi's dad at concerts, with a camera, recording. In 2018 during the Love Yourself Tour he would wave, talk and take pictures with many ARMYs and show them to Hobi.
His parents are seriously adorable and other Idols talk about how Hobi's parents are always inviting others to have dinner at their house. His dad saw Leeteuk from Super Junior at a spa and invited him for dinner out of the blue.
Basically, Hobi loved both his parents- And his big sister, but he loves his mom more than anything and she no longer has had to work. Instead, that woman cooks up a storm and is enjoying her life. Seriously, anytime his sister Vloggs, their mom is almost always there and she's always cooking something lol.
Anyway, just wanted to give some background to the song, why he wrote it, and what he was talking about/singing about.
Hobi is such a ray of sunshine, but he has his dark phases too, and he too has his share of struggles.
Thanks again for all the amazing Hobi content. 💜💜💜

28% of South Koreans are Christian. Most Koreans don't subscribe to a religion or are Buddhists but many believe in the philosophies of Confucianism. I think most Christians in Korea are baptist or catholic
