The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection was Nintendo's Online service and answer to Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. Running on the Nintendo Wii and DS it was simple and easy to use and became very popular with the release of Mario Kart DS and Wii.
Sadly, it was shutdown in 2014 due to a buyout and eventual closure of the service.
All is not lost however as there are hosted online servers and methods to play Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, and even Call of Duty Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3 on the Nintendo Wii in 2019.
