The newsreader is so so good!

Julie

Bradley, your touching comment, of "Sam Reid, you are so good at this!" has prompted me! You guys must, must, must watch the Australian drama, "The Newsreader" too, to see him in another masterclass of acting! His character on it is nothing like Lestat! But he's every bit as good! And so is the rest of the cast! It's bitchy, 80s drama, on a network station, before a 24 hour newscycle existed! Like, if you've seen the movie "Argo" for the US ... When one specific crisis was our sole focus. I can't say it was better or worse, but certainly news unified us, more then, than it divided us, because it had to be prioritized for only a few broadcasts a day,to appeal to the broadest audience or at the best/worst, preempt your soap opera with a special report if it was BIG STUFF. Certinaly it wasn't the garbage of some cable networks I won't name trying to garner national outrage because one trans kid won a track meet in bum fuck or stupid, manufactured outrage shit like that. And the other cast is great. Anna Torv (Fringe, The Last of Us) is a delight! Plus, Chai Hansen! William McInnes and Marg Downey too ... not staples in the US, but skillful in their roles too, and acclaimed in Oz, rightfully so. Please, move it to the queue of possibility!

Ben Daniels (Santiago’s actor) in an NYT interview said they initially wanted him to play Santiago as straight, but after reading the script he said β€œI thought the only way this level of vitriol that he has works is if he’s in love with Armand” and he β€œfinds Louis very attractive […] It gave such a drive to his hatred.” Then he started talking about reaction formation and Iago from Othello, it was WILD. Somehow in a show that includes Lestat, Santiago manages to be the messiest bitch in the thing. πŸ˜‚ Armand is a fascinating and deeply messed up character, and now y’all have just some of his horrific backstory explaining why. It honestly informs everything he does for the entire series and kind of puts everything in a very different light.

Maybe you explained this before and I missed it but is there a reason you don't pause the video when you have a lot to say or use the back button to clarify the stuff you missed? This show moves kinda fast and is one of the more complex ones out there. I think it would help with clarity and so you don't spend time speculating about stuff that was misunderstood.

Very much looking forward to next ep 🀭πŸ”₯ great reaction guys!
