Question: Most exciting announcements from SGF?

We're in the thick of Summer Game Fest! What are your favorite announcements so far? With the Xbox event just about to begin and a Ubisoft event tomorrow, feel free to keep adding your thoughts to this thread.

Comments

While I understand the concern about tone in the initial trailer, I'm extremely excited for Dragon Age 4 after watching the gameplay reveal. As a certified Mass Effect Sicko, this feels like it's made specifically for me - a Dragon Age game with the writing I enjoy, and also combat that might actually be fun instead of just bearable.

Chase Wheatley

Aw man besties pls give ESO a go, it's my favorite game.

Alec Maure

Civ7 and Battle Aces for me. Oh, loved the Anger Foot shoutout, by the by… I bought that on itch.io about a million years ago and loved the goofy ultra fast pace of it. I’m really interested to see where it’s gotten since the last time I played.

Kerry Benton

Super excited for Fable and Perfect Dark

PaxSnax

Psychroma is out now!

Matthew Aitken

Fable and Civ

Kevin Engelkamp

over all very happy with them indies. Day of the Devs had a ton of titles that looked delightful, from stuff that had me laughing the entire presentation like building relationships to UFO50 getting a release date to Psychroma which I need NOW.

ran

I want to chime in again to throw a little more shade at Xbox and Spencer’s and Booty’s comments over the weekend. It’s very whitewashing to let him pretend that the deaths of amazingly creative and talented studios are necessary to fund the big hits of tomorrow (next year? The year after? Maybe ship 2025 and fix the broken thing two years later, a-la Xbox). Or at least, I get the cold-blooded logic of “X studio didn’t earn Y dollars so it’s of no use to us to keep paying its salaries and benefits” but then don’t at the same time convince me that you care about talent and creativity, that one of the worst mass layoffs in two years of mass layoffs was just a hiccup on the way to some kind of redemptive arc. Xbox’s history as a business over the last decade is still very much in my mind once I get over the excitement of seeing Marcus and Dom again. How many of these games will ship either on time or in a complete state, or be money-grabs or just a total misread of the gaming landscape at the time they launch, or how else will they underwhelm and end up leaving the teams’ behind them on the chopping block? There’s more games, good games, than ever, as Plante keeps pointing out and for something like a co-op third person shooter, hell yeah that excites me, but we already have Helldivers 2, so will Gears be able to sustain a community beyond just people who experience its single player campaign? Will it have Horde and will that be good? Will that be promised at launch and delivered later, or cut entirely like what 303 has done with local co-op on modern Halo? I basically want to be excited for games that look fun but the guy asking me to be excited about them hasn’t even cleaned the blood off of his hands and it’s hard to not feel doubt about how good the future will be for these titles (mind you, yeah, I expect the studio behind gears to survive, but that funding it will come at the cost of other teams doing less mainstream stuff). It just feels off, man

EtherEli

Okay, back for more! I am so freaking excited for Citizen Sleeper 2. That first one was incredibly special to me and I can’t wait to see what they have in store. Also did y’all see Fallen Aces? That shit looks so cool, just not sure how to feel about the episodic nature.

Stephen Taubner

Was very surprised to see a new Life is Strange game, with Max!

Julia

UFO 50 is definitely up there. There wasn’t that much at SGF that got me excited to be honest. Goodlands from the Wholesome Direct really appealed to me. Also pretty excited for Monster Hunter Wilds

Addison

The indie title I’m most excited for is definitely Citizen Sleeper, JotA has done a great job keeping the fan community connected in that world with some of the promo stuff in the last year (Helion Dispatches series, the recent TTRPG Actual Play) and man I’m just so excited to role-play in that universe again. With that being said, after all the (completely justified) concern over what Xbox has up its sleeve anymore, I was not expecting a new mainline Gears game and am absolutely pumped for this premise. These were always so good for co-op and where I feel like recent Halo titles have fallen off in being as good for that, if me and my old high school friends can play this split screen or cross-platform, hoo boy it will scratch an itch I haven’t had scratched in years

EtherEli

Life is strange: double exposure

Patrick Young

I am actually quietly hopeful for Star Wars Outlaws. Haven't played an open world game in a while so no fatigue, and it looks like they've rendered the world really well.

matt vesely

I’m excited about Wanderstop. From the creators of the Stanley Parable? Sign me up!!

Emily Hoopes

I’m stoked for Fable!

Judson Greene

Doom Dark Ages has me incredibly excited!

melon patch

Gonna be honest, I didn't have "Gear of War CG trailer makes me emotional" on my bingo card. I haven't played anything from the series since Gears of War 2, but that E-Day trailer and its music hit HARD.

Mark Townsend

Mixtape looks right up my generational alley. Shame they got Smashing Pumpkins instead of Pavement though.

Casey Francis Alger

Civilization VII and Generation Exile - city builders are everywhere, but I donno - it just grabbed me for a reason. None of the shooters really grabbed me.

Luke Pommersheim

I didn't think it felt particularly exciting this year. The Blumhouse launch slate was the coolest thing for me. I'm very excited for indie horror.

Michael From

Cairn looks very cool from the trailer. It literally tells us nothing substantial, really, but the screams of frustration of the character in the trailer suggest a climbing game that actually feels dangerous and I'm about it.

Andrew Toms

Project C! Barlow and Baby Cronenberg? Give it to me RAW

Cheeks

Yeah by the time it comes out my son will be six, but he's already beaten with me. Mario wonder, all the switch Kirby games(forgotten land, all stars and the other one I forget) we beat TMNT he's beaten the Astro bot PS5 game. He's SOOO excited for the new astrobot

Brad MacDonald

Squirrel with guns looks sick

Brad MacDonald

Top five in no particular order: Civilization 7 even though it's a ways off, I just love those games so much. Dragon Age: The Veilguard, although we'll see if that changes after Tuesday's gameplay video. Gears of War: E-Day, would rather have Gears 6 but any Gears is great in my book. South of Midnight just looks so cool, I want to see more of it. And Alan Wake 2: Night Springs, I knew they would announce it but never would have guessed it would be out the next day!

Clay

Wait WHAT

EtherEli

The new Perfect Dark looks so good assuming it wasn’t all just bullshots. Very keen to play a mirrorsedgelike with deus ex vibes. Not sure how much exactly it’s going to be an immersive sim, but with any luck they won’t immediately shut down the studio afterwards!

Jani Saarijarvi

I'm interested in seeing more about those Blumhouse games. Especially the one that looked like a scary Stardew Vally

aaron

I know, right? Finally!

Kormakur Gardarsson

It is hard to pick something from the Xbox showcase since almost everything looks so good, by far the best gaming show in the recent years.

Gundeman

(technically a spinoff made by the deck nine team instead of dontnod, but still exicted as I enjoyed true colours)

Patrick Young

A direct sequel to life is strange 1 with the same main character was certainly not expected

Patrick Young

Outersloth warned my heart

Faith Quist

So pumped for more Gears of War! Mixtape and Expedition 33 also look like 100% my jam

Alex Duplessie

It’s old news, but my main take away from the whole weekend is that Avowed is still this year and I won’t have to drop an extra impoverished dollar to get it. Game pass continues to pay dividends baybeeeee. I loved the Outer Worlds and am so excited for Obsidian’s next thing. They mainly showed the major faction choices here, but I can only hope each quest is as good and deep as they are in the studio’s other outings.

PokéRedstone

I thought you were joking here. I googled it and holy shit

PokéRedstone

No thoughts, just Metaphor re fantazio 😌

Mary Harvey

Have they shown us any reason why Flight Simulator 2024 has to be a whole new game, instead of just an expansion pack of some kind?

Leo Herzog

UFO 50 finally getting a release date!

Kormakur Gardarsson

Coming back around to add a few more of my most anticipated indie titles. Citizen Sleeper 2! Possessor(s)! More excited for this now than HLB, honestly. Screenbound looks like such a brain trip, The Secret of Crystal Mountain gives me A Short Hike (an all-time favorite) vibes, and Tiny Terry's Turbo Trip looks like a ton of fun.

AaronElWhite

DLC for The Talos Principle. I am almost 40 and a huge dork, sue me.

damond armstead

Possessor(s) from Heart Machine, I trust them to make good games. Cozy Dungeons looks really smart. Clear a dungeon, renovate it, and then sell it for profit is a clever loop. We'd already seen some of Neva, from the team that made GRIS, but the more I see the more impressed I am.

Joe Dean

Fable looks better than I could have dreamed.

Bioschlock

Wanderstop!!! Very excited to see what Davey Wreden has up his sleeve for this cozy game that is almost certainly not just a cozy game

Cakeatjobs

Dragon Age not only going in a totally new direction with surprise name change but the fact that it's finally coming out this fall is bonkers. Ten years of development and reworking with pretty much no information and now it's like the floodgates have opened. Very excited to see gameplay on the 11th!

Bree R.

Discounty - the "convenience" of Moonlighter but without the dungeon crawling elements. Plus that trailer made it seem like there's something lurking under the surface...

C Rivera

Alan Wake 2 getting a physical release was my highlight.

Directional Joy

I’ve been so excited for UFO 50 for so long, but ever since the Miyoo Mini got native Pico-8 support it feels like its thunder got stolen a little. The Xbox Showcase got me excited for Indiana Jones and a new Life is Strange

El Pescado

The sick trailer for a game called Battle Aces, not to be confused with an entirely separate game announced a few minutes prior titled Battle Suit Aces

Keregan

Looking forward to playing Hyperlight Breaker once it comes to consoles.

Shmueli Berdugo

Possessors really hooked me in with the trailer from the Devolver Digital and I'm dieing for a tentative release date

Mike Schofield

Dragon Age: The Veilguard! I've been waiting 10 years and the Dreadwolf trailer was kinda disappointing, so seeing this pivot to a new name, character introductions that are exciting, and a pivot in direction has me very excited for Fall.

Elliott Rabbit

Video games are so cool y’all! E3 is always the most hype time of year for me, and it’s good to know we’re still getting bits of that even if officially the event is dead. Kinda trying to save my money and stick to Elden Ring for now but a lot of games I’m seeing have my eager for more (Phatom Blade and Wukong look so cool!!)

Thomas Barker

My favorite announcement, by a landslide, was innersloth taking the profits from among us and reinvesting back into a ton of small indie studios. It made that supercell commercial with Christina Rocci and Ken Jeong feel gross. They spent so much money on that ads production and the slot and here innersloth is taking their profits and using them wisely in a way that benefits the studio and gamers.....also Sam Barlow's new game Project C

Joe Moore

I know everyone knew it was coming but I’m excited for the quidditch game.

Michael Hackbarth

Tears of Metal looks fun. I wasn’t sure at first what exactly I was looking at, but hack n’ slash co-op sounds amazing.

Leah Kornacki

UFO 50 is at the top of my charts right now!! Looking forward to what the Xbox folks have to show in a bit.

Captain Ginyu

Power Rangers getting a "Shredder's Revenge" -esque beat em up looks like nostalgic fun, and something I can have a blast with friends playing. Also, Outersloth, in a time where major developers are getting shuttered/doing major layoffs, it's nice to see support for independent developers in this fashion.

Cheyne King

Not just the announcement of Outersloth, but the games they've put money into all seemed really interesting

Dan Smillie

Civ 7 for sure, since I'd love to get back into something like that. And the outersloth funding things like Mars first logistics, which I've dabbled in a bit, is nice

Bret Scofield

I’m incredibly excited for the Alan Wake DLC, and the Power Rangers Beat’em Up looks fun. Maybe the most interesting stuff is the Blumhouse announcement.

Mike Kenney

Very interested in what looks like Davey Wreden's critical take on the 'Cozy Games' genre in His writing has always had a lot to see so I'm curious to see how the snippet we saw is expanded in the final project. The Simulation from the Blumhouse block also looked kind of interesting. Seems like a game about using the tools of game design to solve a mystery.

Ellysia

Another voice for Alan Wake 2 dlc here. Also really looking forward to Metaphor!

Brandon Craw

Sid Meier chose violence.

Matthew Williamson

As someone who's always wanted to get into RTS games but been too overwhelmed each time, Battle Aces looks right up my alley.

Brad Durbin

I didn't realize they dropped a release date. I love how different they went visually from Goose Game. Looks so funny, can't wait.

TyRyanArt

This looked incredible! Very excited to get this in my hands, so many good memories with the older Power Rangers games on the SNES.

Anthony Alberti

I’m definitely most excited for the Alan Wake DLC and you can’t forget Killer Bean

Basil Shepherd

This definitely is the “lost year” as had been expected. I’ve not yet checked out the Wholesome Direct, but so far, UFO50 is running away with my interest.

Marty Day

Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind!

Jeff Garcia

Pipistrello And The Cursed Yoyo looks like a super fun and fluid GBA style Zeldalike Tenebris Somnia looks so unique, matching 8 bit horror with live action cutscenes Naughty Geese seems great for 2D platformer fans. Though unfortunately is very hard to search for. Both "Naughty" and "Geese" bringing up very different game results.

TyRyanArt

The Thing remaster that Nightdive is doing

Daniel Nielsen

I’m curious about Wanderstop, Civ 7, Monster Hunter, Hyper Light, and Neva. Not sure I’ll play it but seeing the Quidditch announcement made me nostalgic because as a kid I played a lot of the PS2 version.

Betsy Behun

Tenjutsu looks incredible

Nic Stelter

Mars First Logistics is fantastic. Dredge DLC is super exciting too isn’t it :D

Luke Davies

So glad to see a release date for UFO 50

Jim

Enotria had the only trailer that really hooked me. Such a great fight scene!

Trevan Haskell

That climbing game where you scream a lot

Dorian Young

Power rangers. I'm a sucker for these nostalgia beat 'em ups.

Mixmaster Moose

Release date for Thank Goodness You're Here. DLC of Alan Wake 2. Neva gameplay trailer

Soeps

Gotta be UFO 50 for me.

Ari

Outersloth funding project is the most inspiring, awesome thing to come out of this weekend by far. Loads of indie games caught my interest, too, with Killer Bean, Neva, and more Dredge DLC getting me really excited. Also pumped that Civ VII is coming, but wish they'd have done more than just make an announcement.

AaronElWhite

Lego Horizon Adventures

Brian Haworth

UFO 50 and Power Rangers were exciting for me. And earlier this week, Astro Bot! Neva looked gorgeous, but I didn't like Gris.

Allan Thomaz Stiubiener

Outersloth which is really all i find interest in

Jody Anthony

So hyped for monster hunter!!!

melon patch

Civ VII was the most exciting announcement

Thomas P

Infinity Nikki! While it doesn’t look like the type of game I would normally play, the trailers have been wild, and it really seems to be capturing the feeling of “fun” in a way none of the other announcements are doing for me. I’m excited to try something new and see where it takes me!

Daniel Meyer

Alan Wake and Talos Principle dlc

Andrew Rogers

Alan Wake 2 DLC & Collectors Edition, easily

Pacific S. Obadiah

Civ VII was the coolest announcement. But the coolest trailers to me were Neva which looks unbelievably stunning. And the first ascendant trailer made me way more excited for whatever that game is going to be then I was expecting.

Michael Taves

dredge announced a dlc, i'm incredibly hype for that

Kit Geraghty

Dungeon Clawler. Any bestie that says this doesn't looks terrific is lying

Mike Corris

Civ 7, outersloth and Quidditch

Nicky Bodsworth

The obvious answer is UFO 50, but I’m also really interested in Cairn. Jusant got me itching for more climbing adventures! EDIT: Okay screw all of that… DOOM The Dark Ages is already my most anticipated of 2025

Stephen Taubner

Wanderstop looks interesting! It's shown to be a cozy tea making sim, but knowing how The Stanley Parable plays I imagine there's going to be more under the surface.

Claire

Innersloth’s game fund, Outersloth.

Matthew Aitken

I'm only waking up for Dragon Age

Jenna Stoddard

Innersloth making a fund for indie games called Outersloth is amazing. Gotta give props to those who help others make games rather then pull the ladder up behind them.

Adam Senn

Blumhouse maybe?

jtingl

Terry! and Neva looked very interesting

Gabriel Elfina

It's pretty much been a letdown for me so far, but there's too many games to play already

Monty

Killer Bean yassss

TaintedHermit

It looks absolutely bonkers, and the Jesse Faden reveal was so choice

Laughedwig

While Waiting seems like a peak ADHD experience game if I was understanding the trailer correctly Also always happy to see more Dredge content!!

Jackie aka Jax

Neva! The first trailer had me interested, but this latest one hooked me with the gameplay and world design. Can't wait for that one

Luke

The slew of indie games on the 8th completely overtook any SGF announcements. Indies are carrying the industry right now!

Beefy Belo

Was going to say these and also specifically that the Alan Wale 2 DLC is totally goofy.

Mike Sklens

Blumhouse and Alan Wake DLC

WillieBSober

The shadow drop of the Alan Wake dlc was awesome, and EA effectively giving us a new I Think You Should Leave sketch was the best decision they’ve made in a long time

Laughedwig

Simultaneous platform release and... ~CROSSPLAY~ for Monster Hunter Wilds 🥹

Chanda

UFO 50 finally getting a solid release date is pretty exciting. It's been in the incubator for a good while and I look forward to the varied and polished games that will be included in the collection.

Ghostie Cat

I'm hugely hyped that LEGO Horizon is an old school styled Lego game AND multiplatform

cameron Swingle

Astro Bot!

OldBoomstick

Blumhouse and the amongus studio stepping in to help make more indie games

Jackie aka Jax

Im very excited for Civ 7 and id love for yall to bring someone on to talk about it when it comes out, even though its not your cup of tea

Zane Rader

• Cuffbust gameplay looks fun, but art direction needs more “Gremlins”, less “Minions” • Monster Hunter Wilds looks wild • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers! • Wanderstop feels heavily influenced by ‘Psalm for the Wild-Built’ and I’m here for it. • Neva is going to fuck me up, isn’t it?

Kyle Starr

A full Astro Bot game I can play with my 8 year old is gonna be so choice!

Laughedwig

Civ 7 was the only announcement that stirred something inside me

Will Metzler

UFO50 and AW2 DLC.

Aaron Amendola

THAT WHITE BOY DANCED AND GAVE US MORE ALAN WAKE. Love to see it.

Joe Ruscio
