Hilarious, Lindsey stealing Todd's booger sugar 😂

They are smug and annoying. When you have a good guest, ask an interesting question and then listen. Stop talking over and interrupting your guest. Painful.

Steve

The How Long Gone podcast is terrible, not because of Bret but because of the hosts. They won't stop talking. THEY

Steve

Loved the Cimino opening

Vin Bravo

For those interested.. Bret was on the How Long Gone podcast that was posted today.

What a great podcast. Perfect! Great monologue and great interview. I didn't know about many of the people they mentioned but I can educate myself if I wish. This was pure gold.

Jorge Espinha

Loved this. It seems to me that Bret's conversations with fellow writers bring out the best in him.

Paul Richardson

Another great episode. Matthew Specktor is one of the better guests you have had on the podcast.

Another good episode. Good job by everyone. No way Nightmare Alley is Del Toro's best film. It may be his best film for people who aren't huge on his movies and love the 70's, like Bret and probably Matthew seem to be. Lol at Licorice Pizza being better than Almost Famous, you've gotta be able to have some fun to be at the movies and to say Licorice Pizza is better seems purely academic.

This was a fantastic episode. Matthew Specktor’s book, which I read last year, is really beautifully written and well-researched, which his chapter about Carole Eastman especially devastating. Here’s hoping this isn’t his last appearance on the pod!

Graig Gilkeson

Hi Brett! I thought the new Batman movie by Matt Reeves would be great for you to review! Thank you and Happy Birthday :)

Manny Ramos

Happy Birthday, Bret!!! Woo!!!

I simply don’t buy ANY of the identity-based presumptions about what could have been and why, and why what was, was. It’s creating a literal fantasy world driven strictly by ideology (or the fear of appearance of not buying into an ideology/desire to display that one does) that has no rational basis for believing is so. The quasi-righteous currently highly promoted purported belief in this ideology in Hollywood is driven by the same cynical and artificial reasoning that EVERYTHING Hollywood creates for public/PR consumption is: the creation of a totally manufactured reality for public consumption for one reason…making money. They don’t believe in it, don’t actually care in the least, and when the cultural winds change (as will occur soon, in fact is actually already in its initial stages) they will drop their interest in all the poor oppressed currently patronized/dehumanized ‘others’ they are doing SUCH ‘great things’ for. For, of course, their OWN brand beatification/bottom lines and for which they demand and give each other endless congratulations and thank yous (as they continue to endlessly knife each other in the back.) And all the immutable arbitrary human characteristics they are basing their green lights and hires on will cease to be cause for green lights and hires. They’ll have squeezed that orange dry and will be on to the next thing to appear to be, to look as they want to be seen, buying what they think the culture at large can be sold. Their Great Favor done, karmic and monetary rewards banked.

All I can say is thank god for this podcast.

Hoping for a proper "The Batman" review from Bret on the next pod...

Charlie C

I truly enjoyed the Director's cut of Heavens Gate. Another great book about a lot of these 70's films is "Easy Riders, Raging Bulls" by Peter Biskind...

Slate Horner

Okay, it took me a while but I realized this is a recurring comment. Long story short: began researching and ended up ordering a book of yours, Hello Friend we missed You. Cymru am Byth!

Dan Zilic

Wow the cadence of the michael cimino intro is one of the best things you have written —I didn’t know about this except previously from this podcast and this is such a superb account! Yowwwwww

Seneca Garcia

Another fucking great interview! Just bought Matthews book.

aaron weisblatt

Second time Specktor mentions the admission letter to Bennington on the podcast, Bret's response is gold

Fernando

Would have liked more insight into Tuesday Weld. Why did she never go all the way? She had success, sure, but –given the roles she turned down- was she plagued with doubt; did she self-sabotage? Bret on the Press: “They need to get tricked; they need to learn a lesson and get fucked with.” Yes. Oh, and "The Car" is the greatest evil automobile movie ever made, as well as being James Brolin's best work. The eponymous vehicle was perfect from its demonic styling to its titanic truck horn. That the film didn't get an Oscar nom is a scandal.

Michael Walsh

Awesome episode. Hearing you both riff on 70s movies was pure joy. Have never read any of Matthew’s work but totally sold on his new book. On returning guests, someone I’d love for you to host again would be Owen Gleiberman. He was fantastic last time.

P Smoke

Excellent episode, wonderful book

Christopher Jones
