The pod was just edited out of order.

Does Bret want a digital copy of Last Summer? I have it

Dan S

The intro always make me think of Back That Azz Up by Juvenile

I’m confused about “Lost Daughter” film. In the episode Bret talks about it, and says that Olivia Colman is fine in it, but the film didn’t have a style. But in the end of episode, Bret says that he’s going to watch a movie on Netflix with Todd on New Year’s Eve and says, some movie, whatever, “Lost Daughter”. I was like - wait, didn’t he just talk about it earlier? Does he mean he’s watching some other film, and just confused the title with “Lost Daughter”?

I don't understand these people who can't deal with Sean Stone or Milius, et al. I feel like their comments come from some weird, alternate universe. Granted, I live in Mexico and don't pay any attention to the propaganda media, social or otherwise. Is it that far gone in the US, that people who speak honestly are "cancelled"? I feel bad for these people. I don't want to attack them. I don't know what would help...perhaps a course in Critical Thinking. But they do seem delusional, accepting what their masters tell them. It's really sad. I hope there is a way to salvage these people from the abyss to which they are heading. NAMASTE!

It’s his resignation that rankles me. He can do better. *sigh*

WH

Thanks. And I feel you on the weird influx of "doing my own research/own the libs" bros, who seem to have colonized the podcast Facebook group (and parts of here, if old posts are any indication.) Still love the podcast, and hey, it's on me for being a year behind.

I mostly agree with you. I took a break from the pod for the past year, I just couldn’t listen to the political stuff. And, I’ve been a fan of BEE since I was a teen (I’m 43 now). I really think the reviews and critiques have pin point and sharp, and the little political detours have been short and pretty harmless. Maybe my break helped me appreciate all the non-political stuff. We are inundated with news all day, maybe taking a little break may help. Don’t want to cost BEE a sub, but I’ve been in your boat. The bummer was the weirdo incel dudes in the comments, and all the newbies who caught wind of BEE via fox and those podcasts who are hosted by virgins. I feel your pain, man. I think BEE is back in form

I feel like all of the episodes after the Sean Stone one have been light on politics. I don't know if that was a conscious decision or not, but the interviews seem more relaxed the last six months.

This is somewhat off topic, but I figured the newest thread would be the best place to get an informed response. For various reasons, I'm about a year behind on the podcast. Absolutely loving THE SHARDS and most of the guests. But listening to the head-spinning malarkey in the Amanda Milius interview from last December makes me ask: do the interviews with the ensuing right/right of center guests get any better? I'm as critical of the excesses of many on the Left as anyone, and I count P.J. O'Rourke as one of my favorite righty pundits, but the run of conservative guests like Milius, Lee Smith, and Chris Paul (who went full Mike Lindell-worshipping wackadoodle after the 2020 election) live up to an almost cartoonish version of conservatism. And Bret's total ignorance of the facts of modern sociopolitics (and the way he basically buys into the propaganda these guests espouse) is embarrassing for someone as intelligent as him, who so excels in nuanced discussion with non-political guests. Won't even go into his hilariously cloistered and misinformed takes on the early days of COVID. Again, I love 95% of what Bret does, and this is still by far my favorite podcast. It just feels like ever since the ridiculous lefty blowback over WHITE, he's found so much comfort in the embrace of the Fox News crowd (while completely downplaying their similar, if not worse, hypocrisies) that he's lost sight of some things. And if the 2021 guests like these (or Sean Stone, who I briefly read about in his episode's thread) just tread the same tired path, I can save some time and skip those parts of the show.

Please get Hanya Yanagihara on about her new book.

Ha! I liked this, too! I've commented here before that this is not something that we are familiar with down here in Mexico (I've asked other Mexicans if they know what a chicano is. They pause and say, "Someone from Chicago?" So, there's that.). How does one pronounce Latinx? It seems that one would need to speak English to be able to pronounce it. I guess this is the point. It's a bullshit word that people should make fun of. :-p

Bret recently mentioned a rare viewing of “Looking for Mr. Goodbar” on TCM. It is scheduled again on TCM, Thursday 01/20, 9:00 at PM PST. Same date on TCM at 7:00 PM, Paul Schrader’s “Patty Hearst.”

Michael Rigney

On a recent show you mentioned you couldn't find Last Summer. I think I found it: https://we.tl/t-5E01Gj9elI

Damn sounding older and older man. The description of going to the theater then bringing your own snacks wtf??

WH

Had no desire to prior, but Bret’s intro talked me into seeing the new West Side Story IN the theatre. Great episode.

Phoenix

Bret, for the love of Glamorama, where where can I find the 4 hr. version of New York, New York?

Tom Kern

Really enjoyed the podcast. Happy that Bret found a new film he likes. For recent Spielberg, I thought that Bridge of Spies was a really awesome film. To the point of spectacle and using every inch of that screen to make great visuals, you could pause Bridge of Spies at any moment and you will see what could be a great painting every time.

Alex Waller

BEE - I would love you to interview Lionel Shriver. It would be an amazing conversation about literature & current events between you two.

AshSebash

As of time of writing, there's an eBayer in Greece that has 3 copies of Last Summer on DVD available for $20 + postage.

Paul Richardson

Great episode… Heading to Barnes & Noble tonight to snag a copy of Stoner… It’s funny, I remember listening to the Chuck P. interview while driving home from Vermont. It was the spring.

Brian Rooney

i could hear bret say “latinx” in his mocking voice every single day 🤣🤣

Nick Not Nolte

I have Last Summer on VHS … hit me up Adam if you want to pass it on to Bret.

Darren Ankenman
