I haven't started it yet, but I felt the same when I first saw the series trailer, especially the music. It's strange how only in rare instances does another medium capture the vibe of his books. The music on the "Lunar Park" website back in 2005. The opening shots of abandoned hangouts in "The Canyons." Bryan Metro's music and pale Amber Heard dying on a beach in "The Informers."

The acting isn't much but as a fan of Brett's novels, I can say that the visual style is pretty much exactly what I imagine when I'm reading most of them. My gf and I recently watched Less Than Zero on HBO Max. It was fun in a kind of cheesy way, but pretty much nothing like the book at all. The vibe of this series is pretty close to what I imagine a movie version of that book would be.
