That was fun. I don't follow rugby but my husband does. It looks like women's rugby is very similar to women's football, which I do follow. They are much more wholesome to watch than the men's, the crowds are more family orientated. Yet the standard is just as good. Maybe have a look at the English Lionness', winning the Euros last year.

I play semi pro American Football in the AAAFL (Vengeance is our team name). Today we play the Tucson Gorillas...🏈

I'm hoping I'm still alive when the Italian men's Six Nations team break the winning the Wooden Spoon streak. They try hard, bless their cotton socks. The Netherlands have been applying to join the tournament for years as Rugby very popular there but have not quite been good enough. I've had to stop flying the England Rugby flag at home as every time I raise it they lose. Much to the chargrin of my Neighbours. I'm torn when they play Ireland. Irish flag or English Rugby flag? I never fly a Union Flag or a St. George's cross, don't want a brick through the window. An original Richard III Standard, Three Lions. Gold Lions passant on a maroon base often flown when they are playing. A European Tournament? Maybe in years to come as is quite popular in many European countries, particularly those that have UK Military based in them, Cyprus and Malta, even Germany and Nordic/Scandinavian Countries where the Forces play each other.

I enjoyed that video a lot - thank you. I come from a rugby family (league rather than union), and tried to play at school. My short sightedness was an issue, though, as without my glasses I couldn't see the ball until it hit me in the face! If you're interested in more, have a look at rugby sevens. It is seven a side, still on the full sized pitches, and with a lot more running than the 15-a-side of full union teams. Some of the best teams in the world are from small island nations.

Sorry danger of replying half way through

Hi Simon - I mention in the video it's in Canada, and we even watch a few Canada matches! But you might not have gotten there yet lol

Interesting! Hope it gets the recognition it deserves

I used to work with Dr Karen "the quiet giant" Henderson, who played for England in the 90s. Lovely person. Great to see that the women's game is getting more popular.

Now I am surprised! Tough girl like you never played rugby? 😁 I don’t think rugby is very popular here in Austria, I only watch it when it’s on in the pub. And for me, not knowing any rules or tactics, it always just looks like a bunch of people running into each other.

Rugby (union) was the main sport at my secondary school. As soon as it became an option I switched to cross-country running and then swimming. I definitely prefer watching it to playing it! I'd say Rugby League, which tends to be played more in the North of England, is a little more akin to American football in that play stops after a tackle is made (but only for a second or two!). The quality of women's rugby (and indeed football) has improved immensely over the past decade or two.

Yes you can punt in rugby The Canadian flag was because the game was played in Canada. Women's rugby fills stadiums in England. It's really hard to know what's going on a lot of the time in Rugby. There are some good videos out there explaining it.
