February Book Club review - soooo goooood!

For Book Club this month we read FAIL SAFE by Eugene Burdick and Harvey Wheeler. I loved this so much and once I got close to the end, I stayed up for hours reading so I could finish it ๐Ÿ’ฅ

I originally picked this because Goodreads recommended it and the reviews seemed positive, so why not? I had no idea how much I'd enjoy this - incredibly anxiety-inducing, very technical but understandable, terrifying and thrilling! Wow! I know it's been made into at least 2 films (I think) but I've never seen them - which was great because this was totally new to me.

If you have any interest in some Cold-War-anxiety, please don't read any more about it and give it a try yourself! ๐Ÿ›ฉ๏ธ

๐Ÿงˆ March Book Club Pick ๐Ÿงˆ

For March, we'll be reading Butter by Asako Yuzuki ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต I know nothing about this other than it's been super popular and it's Japanese! Fun! If you choose to read it/listen to it, I hope you enjoy!

๐Ÿ“• What is Book Club?

My goal is to read more - so I started Book Club! Each month, Iโ€™ll post what Iโ€™m reading and you are welcome to join in ๐Ÿ“š Whether you want to read or listen, it's totally up to you! At the end of the month, weโ€™ll share our thoughts on the book (no spoilers in case you're still reading/listening).

You can try and read each book, or pick and choose month-to-month, or not! Itโ€™s totally up to you.

Happy reading!

January's Book Club Pick Review: loved it! ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ๐Ÿ“

For January's Book Club we read The Lost City of Z by David Grann. This non-fiction follows the famous British explorer Percy Fawcett's journey into the Amazon...

My first book from this author was one we read last year, The Wager (the one about the shipwreck and mutiny). I lovvveeeddd that one so much I wanted to try another from Grann.

While I've seen the movie before, I didn't remember much of the story. I really enjoyed The Lost City of Z, but not as much as the Wager. I think the Wager was fascinating because it told the story so well... it was exciting and thrilling and surprising.

The Lost City of Z is the opposite of a story: an explorer goes into the Amazon never to be seen again. So instead of following that story (since we can't, really) Grann tells surrounding stories about the Fawcett family, previous explorations and the allure of the Amazon during that time period. While it was still really interesting and I had a great time reading it, it wasn't as thrilling as the Wager.

Even still, I'd totally recommend it if you have any interest in the Amazon, British history or explorers! Incredible story - and truly insane what they went through.

February's Book Club Pick ๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿช–

For February, we'll be reading FAIL SAFE by Eugene Burdick and Harvey Wheeler. As always, I never read the back of a book before reading it, but this was recommended on GoodReads - so let's give it a go! First published in 1962, I've gathered a few keywords from glancing at the Amazon page: Cold War, nuclear bombs, American vs Soviets. Sound interesting? I hope you'll join me!

๐Ÿ“• What is Book Club?

My goal is to read more - so I started Book Club! Each month, Iโ€™ll post what Iโ€™m reading and you are welcome to join in ๐Ÿ“š Whether you want to read or listen, it's totally up to you! A+N stats for 2024 | What worked, what didn't

Hey Patreon! ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป What a year 2024 has been....!!!!!

I wanted to reflect back on the year with A+N, what worked, what didn't, share some graphs and rant a bit lol

Sometimes when creating content as a career, you focus solely on what didn't work (or didn't work as well as you hoped). And it can be really easy to overlook the good stuff - or maybe that's just human nature? Who knows.

I created my channel on Dec 20, 2015 - although I didn't start making weekly content until 2017. The fact that we are seeing 2025 is literally โœจamazingโœจit's not often Youtube channels last this long and it's all thanks to people like you. Thank YOU for keeping this dream a reality and supporting me through it all. I'm so thankful to create these videos and connect with this community, so THANK YOU ๐Ÿ’–

I hope you had a great 2024 and an even better 2025.

December Book Club Review ๐Ÿ”Ž I loved it!

To finish off Book Club this year, we read Five Decembers by James Kestrel - I really enjoyed this one! So nice to finish off the year on a high ๐Ÿ“š

I loved that this incorporated so many different genres - crime/noir with a bit of romance and a bit of war and to top it off, a murder mystery! I loved how the writing was direct and to the point like a hardened detective would think and really enjoyed the expansiveness of the plot. Loved it! Yay!

Did you read this one/listen along? Let me know what you thought! #nospoilers

Book Club Update

This week's exclusive video is a recap of Book Club 2024 - I hope you enjoy it! And if you weren't sure which were the best books to read, I'll give you my top recommendations.

๐Ÿ› Our next book for 2025...

I absolutely loved our previous Book Club Pick The Wager, by David Grann - so much so that we're reading another of his books: The Lost City of Z ๐Ÿœ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿ”๏ธ for January! This covers the true story of British explorer Percy Fawcett's adventures in the Amazon.

Book Club REVIEW ๐Ÿ“š What a time-capsule!

This month we read Notes from a Small Island, sent to the PO Box by Andy! ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง I had heard this title and author mentioned before, but never read it or any of this other works.

This one in particular covers Bill's journey around the UK in the early 1990s and I found it like a 90's time capsule. I'm sure many of the references/observations about various British towns and villages no longer hold true but I still found it interesting. Some comments (and humour) might not have aged very well but I can see why it was so popular when it was published.

Overall I thought it was a fun read! As a fellow foreigner living in the UK, there were lots of bits I could relate to (and a lot of references that went over my head lol)

๐Ÿ“ฎ Cheers to Andy for sending it!

๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ„ Book Club pick for December ๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ

For December, we're reading Five Decembers by James Kestrel โ„๏ธ This was recommended by the Butler and yes, I picked it for December solely because December is in the title lol This starts off in 1941 with a murder... who knows where it ends up!

October Book Club Review: spooky-ish! ๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿ”ช

This month we read Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak - it was ~fine~

There were some spooky elements, but nothing that felt too dangerous or life-threatening. Some of the writing actually made me laugh out loud when it really shouldn't have... but I still read the book and zoomed through it, so that says something!

It was a fine thriller, but I'll certainly forget it soon. And that's OK! Sometimes you just need a simple book like that ๐Ÿ‘ป
