January's Book Club Pick Review: loved it! 🗺️📍

For January's Book Club we read The Lost City of Z by David Grann. This non-fiction follows the famous British explorer Percy Fawcett's journey into the Amazon...

My first book from this author was one we read last year, The Wager (the one about the shipwreck and mutiny). I lovvveeeddd that one so much I wanted to try another from Grann.

While I've seen the movie before, I didn't remember much of the story. I really enjoyed The Lost City of Z, but not as much as the Wager. I think the Wager was fascinating because it told the story so well... it was exciting and thrilling and surprising.

The Lost City of Z is the opposite of a story: an explorer goes into the Amazon never to be seen again. So instead of following that story (since we can't, really) Grann tells surrounding stories about the Fawcett family, previous explorations and the allure of the Amazon during that time period. While it was still really interesting and I had a great time reading it, it wasn't as thrilling as the Wager.

Even still, I'd totally recommend it if you have any interest in the Amazon, British history or explorers! Incredible story - and truly insane what they went through.

February's Book Club Pick 💥🪖

For February, we'll be reading FAIL SAFE by Eugene Burdick and Harvey Wheeler. As always, I never read the back of a book before reading it, but this was recommended on GoodReads - so let's give it a go! First published in 1962, I've gathered a few keywords from glancing at the Amazon page: Cold War, nuclear bombs, American vs Soviets. Sound interesting? I hope you'll join me!

📕 What is Book Club?

My goal is to read more - so I started Book Club! Each month, I’ll post what I’m reading and you are welcome to join in 📚 Whether you want to read or listen, it's totally up to you! At the end of the month, we’ll share our thoughts on the book (no spoilers in case you're still reading/listening).

You can try and read each book, or pick and choose month-to-month, or not! It’s totally up to you.

Happy reading!
