2023-12-17 22:24:03 +0000 UTCNot just puddings, Christmas was banned totally, every shop and business had to open, Christmas Church services were banned, too Popish for Puritans and churches had to be bare places with just a simple cross. All the beautiful Frescoes were lime washed over. The Archbishop wes not a happy bunny. The people were very happy when Monarchy was restored but not to pay for it, so most still Royal owned property was handed over to the Government and the Crown Estate formed to manage the estates and spend the incomes. The Monarch paid expenses from this income by the Government by what was known as the Civil List. Two exceptions that the Monarchy was allowed to keep, the Duchy of Lancaster and the Duchy of Cornwall estates.

As for the length of this video: it seems like I'm out shopping and I meet you in the street and we catch up with the news, then bugger off home! Nice! And finally, the lighting at the end of the video is beautiful! Very sepia and seasonal! Totally matching your jumper! Merry Christmas! PS I've done the S N brewery tour. Loved it!

2023-12-16 12:27:30 +0000 UTCGlad all went well with your Mum's visit, being away from the family makes time together more memorable and precious, one is less likely to want to kill them as one did as a teenager or lived together. An idea for a future video, the Plum Pudding Riots in Canterbury when under Oliver Cromwell's rule Christmas was cancelled. That lasted in some form until the Restoration of the Monarchy. As one can imagine, it was not too popular with the people or the Clergy. Puritans were the fun police on steroids.

A few years ago I did a distillery tour of Bombay Sapphire, I hate gin but it was so interesting lolโฆ I remember there was a room which had vapours in it so flammable we werenโt allowed to take our phones inside. Also tried a drop of 80% proof gin, almost knocked me out ๐
