Adventures and Naps

Sorry for the long post, I tried to keep it as brief as possible. Also both of these stories contain references to suicide, I don't want to trigger or offend anyone, it's just how it happened. This happened when I was a teenager, I was at a friends house and we were getting ready to go out to a club later. My friend went to take a shower, and I'm waiting in her room. I was sitting on her bed reading a magazine, the bed had a feather duvet and was freshly made. As I was reading the magazine, I felt a familiar sensation. It was so familiar it didn't even register for a moment. What I felt was a cat jumping on the bed, I've always had cats and I didn't think anything of it until I remembered she didn't have any pets. I looked next to me and there was a distinct impression on the duvet, like someone had sat down next to me. I jumped up, very freaked out. When she was out of the shower and dressed, she asked me what was wrong. I told her what happened and she said, casually "Oh, that's Linda." She lived with her aunt and she explained that things like this happened all the time. Her aunt got a good deal on the house, she said because the previous owner, a woman named Linda had hung herself in the garage. She said you could hear someone walking around the house at night and other noises. When it got too scary she would talk to her "Linda, you're scaring me, please stop." She said invariably the noises would stop. She also said that Linda must have really like ice cream, they couldn't keep it in the house. When she first moved in with her aunt if there was ice cream in the freezer, the next morning it would be on the counter, melted and dripping all over with ants everywhere. She and her aunt fought about it, she accused her of sleep walking but my friend insisted she had never been a sleep walker. Eventually her aunt hired a handy man to put a latch on the freezer door and padlocked it at night. The first time she bought ice cream, the next morning there it was melted on the counter, fridge still locked. That was the last encounter I had with Linda, and I refused to be in that house alone, my friend thought it was funny "she was just checking you out." she said. Here's a bonus story my grandfather told me. He was a very mechanically minded person, no nonsense, pragmatic did not believe in the paranormal. When he was a boy his family moved to a new house, it was outside St. Louis Missouri and this would have been in the late 20's-early 30's. It was very small two bedrooms upstairs one front door. No back door as there was no backyard, it was backed by an alley. Friends and family had helped with the move, but they were done now. It was evening and the women were in the kitchen making dinner, while the men and my grandfather were sitting on a picnic bench under a tree in the front yard. He said they were startled when a young man sprinted directly towards them. He ran right past them, opened the screen door and ran up the stairs, slamming the screen behind him. My grandfather said he distinctly heard his footsteps thumping up the stairs. Everyone jumped up and the women screamed and ran out of the house. The men went in and quickly searched the house which didn't take long as it was so small. There was no sign of him, all the window screens were still on and like I said, no back door. Everyone was very frightened and no one could understand what had just happened. Long story short, after a couple nights my great grandmother spoke to the owner and told him what had happened. He sheepishly admitted that the previous tenant had a teenage son who had killed himself with a shotgun in the bedroom my grandfather and his brothers were sharing. My great grandmother got her rent and deposit back that day and they all moved in with relatives until they could find another house to rent.

Not really into ghost stories or Halloween, not since living in a flat that had a Poltergeist, stuff would mysteriously change location during the night or when out, Wake up in the morning and the bed was in the middle of the room, it wasn't by over energetic nocturnal activity. The dog would often wake us by howling like a wolf for no apparent reason. Funnily enough we called him Satan, his name on his pedigree was far too long and posh sounding. He was a GSD, a Met Police reject as too friendly towards strangers but he died protecting us, he was very brave when needed. Loved the children, wouldn't let them out of sight on a walk on Wimbledon common.
