Some Aldi are doing self check out now. For some things I like the knock off but others I like the original. Son has autism and can tell by smell sometimes. Lotus the Lidl ones are really good too I have one very close, Aldi is further away so not in there much. Aldi had some great deals in the middle aisles but you need to watch what you are buying.

2023-08-13 10:57:11 +0000 UTCInteresting that the store brand names aren't the same between Aldi UK and Aldi US stores. For example; ketchup is Bramwell but in the US it is Burman's. I wonder if it is a trademark thing and FWIW my family wasn't a big fan of the Aldi ketchup either. We usually buy French's, yes the mustard company also makes ketchup after Heinz f---ed over their Canadian suppliers/customers. https://youtu.be/TeVAxbcAr9k

2023-08-12 11:59:57 +0000 UTCWould imagine that Aldi own brands are not made by the same manufacturer as the genuine as is often the case with other supermarket own brands, but with the manufacturer changing the recipe slightly so a noticeable change such as more juice and less solids. In the case of biscuits the pattern on them is often different to original. In a few cases I prefer the OB to the genuine not just in the price. A Custard Cream is a Custard Cream and a Garibaldi a Garibaldi but draw the line with Digestives, dark chocolate ones at least.
