Hey Patreon!

Our upcoming Tuesday Youtube video video is all about British school packed lunches - and I wanted to share some bonus sandies here!

Huge shoutout to the Butler who organised these two videos. It was so much fun being surprised!

Let me know your favourite school sandwich or if you have any ideas of more stuff I should taste-test!

I have crisp sandwiches, tastes better with brown sauce. I used to eat sugar sandwiches when I was a kid.

I always loved meat-paste or fish-paste sandwiches when I was at school! The trouble is, I'm so incredibly OLD that my school days were back in the '60s - before fancy, trendy lunch-boxes had been invented! My sarnies were always wrapped up in the old-style, waxed-paper bread wrappers (pre-plastic bags), which everybody kept for the purpose! Sugar sandwiches were more commonly known as "sugar butties" and were made famous by a character known as "Cupcake" in a 1950s British TV comedy series called "The Army Game"! I did try one once, as an experiment, but I didn't like it very much, either! It's a shame you don't like cucumber... I often used to use thin slices as an extra garnish on top of the MAIN sandwich filler, such as tinned salmon, for example! I always found that to be a good combination of flavours - but I would NEVER have cucumber sandwiches on their own! In answer to your question - I'll eat almost anything - but NOT Coleslaw! That's the one thing I draw the line at! It even LOOKS like vomit...! Crisp sandwiches, on the other hand, are lovely now and then!! Thanks for another entertaining video, Alanna - I look forward to Tuesday's prequel/main event!

I like cucumbers but not sure about them being the only ingredient in a sandwich. However.com my order at Mr Sub (the superior Canadian sub shop 😂) is an assorted cold cuts with lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber and green pepper

Tesco bakery sliced bread. The chicken paste was Tesco own brand. They've gone up market following Lidl and Aldi by giving some own brand stuff a company name. Ma Ling for own brand Spam and Stockwell & Co for some stuff in jars.

Sunblest and Wonderloaf were wrapped in waxed paper if memory serves correctly. Never liked that Chorley Wood process bread flour to wrapped sliced loaf in 40 minutes!

Never had packed lunches always had school meals. At boarding school obviously and when in state school. The idea of sheltering under the bike sheds when raining to eat lunch seems appalling (three sittings in canteen no space) as that's where those that brought packed lunches had to eat in the playground or the park next to the playground there was direct access (the sports fields were off limits). Love Cucumber sandwiches crust off and finger like afternoon tea! Also love meat paste ones and fish paste (Bloater paste and Crab paste).

My mum refused every "MUM CAN WE GET MARSHMALLOW FLUFF!!??" at the grocery store. My friend has the same feelings about cucumbers. The lunch boxes look great and took me back to elementary school.

My dad used to love sugar butties lol

From the day I started primary school at the age of 4, till the day I left primary school at the age of 11, I had tuna sandwiches in my packed lunch. Consequently I can’t touch tuna now! The same way you can’t touch cucumber!

I can definitely relate to the sweaty egg sandwich smell! As others have commented, your bread looks far too nice, budget white loaf was the order of the day for me. Also rather than being neatly wrapped in waxed paper, my sandwiches were usually packed in either an old bread wrapper (Sunblest?) or cheapo cling film. Thanks for bringing back those memories. 😀

I can't believe you didn't put the Simpsons picture on the yellow lunchbox... I have no words...

Hope you have nice weekend! I’m back at home now, so I’ll be able to play some Hogwarts Legacy after I finish work, so I’ll let you know if I can do anything to help with the spoiler stuff!

Very enjoyable video Alanna! Can't wait for Tuesday's one. In primary school in the eighties i had a Mr T lunch box and flask. My mum used to make me crab paste sandwiches, i must have been hated in the lunch hall 😂

Smoked Salmon & cream cheese, Yummy! Hot Salt beef & a little mustard, Delish! Mature cheddar & fresh cooked beetroot, my fav! + a hot chip butty & plenty of salt. Gawd I'm sitting here salivating . (Not that I ever had anything like these in my lunchbox)

We got through a lot of meat paste in sandwiches as kids and I'm glad to be done with it. I suspect it comes from jet washing carcasses after all the good meat has been cut off, so nothing much to do with pâté. My favourite was always polony and pickle.

couldn't disagree with any of your opinions of those disgusting "trials" Hate cucumber, never tried sugar, crisp or stinky paste sarnie's Yuk!

Oh my, chicken paste I remember that. Never heard of a sugar sandwich but remember getting a banana with a sprinkle of sugar on it sandwich. Cucumber my Kryptonite yuck, lol it typed that before you said it, my great uncle was allergic. Thunder cats used to watch it back in the 80s/90s. Crisp sandwich what's not to like, I still sometimes add crisps to a sandwich.

The butler went a bit posh on the bread. Showing my age here, but it felt like it should be hero turtles (for a long time you couldn't call them ninja turtles in the UK)
