Patreon Only - Future of A+N (cryptic) & PO Box (less cryptic!!)

Hi everyone!!

This video is a ~bit~ of a mess but thank you for letting me ramble! I've not been doing that great and wanted to be honest about it, but I'm pretty excited about the future, too.

Also - huge shout out to the PO Box surprises, they are wonderful 💛

Like I mention in the video, if you'd like to take an A+N "get to know you" quiz, you can find it here! I really appreciate all your responses and your support!

I'm sure you'll have most people's support whatever you do. If you decide at some point doing another post you should consider doing a reaction about something you are personally interested in and would like to learn about. Then it would be something you enjoy and benefit from rather than a chore. Just a suggestion to up your content when you want to. Keep smiling that lovely smile!

Lesley

Maybe you could cover things in the UK with a Canadian connection, e.g. Canada House on the shooting ranges at Bisley - https://www.canadianpavilion.co.uk/about ?

I'm glad that you have identified that burnout is becoming an issue and that there are actions you can take to help. Going from two YT videos per week to one YT video instead sounds like a positive step (especially if you can find ways to get time back for yourself, rather than spending twice as long on one video and ending up close to where you started). I think all of us are here to support you as a person (appreciating that we only get to see a small part of who you are) and our support isn't dependent on the amount of content you produce. We can't ignore the financial side of A+N, but no amount of videos, views or anything is worth jeopardising your mental health. Other YouTubers I've followed have stopped posting completely or taken lengthy breaks because of burnout and similar issues - so it's definitely worth identifying and acting on it as early as you can. Finally, another person I back on Patreon made a video last year called "how to get off the content treadmill". It's not really an advice video nor is it going to give you any actionable steps, but I like the perspective that it gives: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KnZgj5JG9Y

Colin Barrow

Sorry to hear you are struggling. You are making the right call to cut back to one YT video a week. I loved having the two videos, but if you feel able to make more content you are happy with that way, then it’s for the best. Frankly I’m amazed you were able to do so much for so long. I filled out the survey, hopefully they help you make some useful decisions.

Shaun Garratt

Do what you need to do! One video a week is cool, we are here for the long haul.

VermiciousKnid

Being able to spot upcoming burnout and give it a swerve is a real skill. Glad to hear that it's one that you have.

Dr Philip J Naylor

You have created a super supportive and lovely community who are here for you. Burn out is serious, so well done on impleting steps to not head down that path.

jillian b

you have worked so hard for so long bringing us a bit of light in pretty dark times. We appreciate all that you do. Do whats best for you, take some time out , come back stronger than ever.

Neil Cowley

do what is right for you, we will still be here

Lester Townsend

It's a shame youtube is so weird that it seems to expect you to do the exact same thing all the time. And penalises those that don't. Bizarre. I think switching back to 1 youtube video is an excellent idea and you have my full support.

Mark J

It is good that you recognise the signs of burnout and that you are going to do something about it. It is too easy to try and soldier on, that way leads to more problems. I think Stuart H is right, take a break, spend quality time with family over Christmas, Those that are here for you will still be here in the New Year.

Mark Walsh

It's that time of the year, November is always the worst time for the 'Winter Blues' to really hit home. Thankfully by Christmas the hours of darkness are getting shorter and the festive season lifts all the gloom and doom. One just has to work through it and keep smiling. Glad the calendar arrived OK, there was not an option to include a note on the order page. Back to watching the Lord Mayor's show, oops, perhaps not supermarket delivery just turned up. Stay safe and well Alanna.

Tony S

I can only add my sentiments to the rest of these replies. Some very good advice there. It's just occurred to me that your mum is staying for a while over Christmas/New Year. Why not take a complete break from YouTube over that period. Then in 2023 continue, but with one video a week? If you feel you can't split for that long, do a live stream? No editing! You have NOTHING to embarrassed about! In fact, I feel touched that you can talk frankly to us. We are not going anywhere!

Stuart Hamilton

I fully support your decision, Alanna - and there is certainly nothing to be embarrassed about 'only' creating two videos a week along with your Twitch, monthly newsletter, and all of your other social media rather than three a week. I couldn't manage even one of those! Even take a week off completely if you feel like it! Your Patreon videos are by far my favourite in any case :-)

David Young

Sorry that you’re feeling burned out! I hope the going to 1 YouTube video a week helps you out! And it’s good that you talked about how you’re feeling too! I actually told one of my flatmates this week that I’m finding Uni hard and finding living in my flat very difficult, so we both talked about what was bothering us this week which is good lol, good luck with your choice about the YouTube videos! I’m glad you’re doing it so that you don’t burn out! You do a lot of work so we don’t mind that there’s one less video a week, we’ll still appreciate your videos and streams just as much!

Aaron Conway

What no "Eco Thrift Store" content....?? #unsubbed. Just kidding, 😂 Glad to hear you are doing what you need for your own sanity. 👍

Will

In a funny way I'm pleased for you that you're taking a foot ever so slightly off the gas - I mentioned the other day that it was amazing to me what actually goes into making of even one of your videos and that was only the 'mechanics' let alone the thought process and preparation. Stay well and keep enjoying it surely has to be the best way forward...we'll still be here! Now, onto the questionnaire...

Malcolm Lawrence

I'm glad you're doing this weirdly! Less of 'you' will mean more of YOU. The upbeat Alanna that we're all kinda fond of, and not a down Alanna who is a wee bit stressed (understandably) about content. BTW none of this is embarrassing, or silly, far from it. It's honest, and it means a lot that you can share that with us. We're all here for you, mate! If there is any way we can help, let us know.

David Jones

As i am sure everyone will say, your health i so more important than anything else. I have seen other creators reach this point as well and although a couple stepped away from YouTube most have come through the other side of this. Do what you need to do to make it easier for you. At least as you say, you got in front of this and that is a good thing, not something to be embarrassed about. The multiple outlets you have going on must be difficult to juggle and keep the content fresh. Having been here pretty much from the beginning, i am very biased and will watch whatever you do, on here at least! I like it when you pop up like a friend every week and whether that is once or twice a week i will still be here. Take care of yourself.

Adam Clark

The most important in this equation is You! We will still be here and at the tube for your one video weekly . You know better than us what your physical/creative/mental limits are and when they are being stretched . You take care of You and we will be here for you and with you !! We care about you Alanna !

john massey

Doing 3 videos a week always seemed a massive ask and must take up so much brain space for you. I always love your content but as you said quality is more important than quantity and the most important thing is that you enjoy doing it. We got your back jack :) x
