October Book Club - REVIEW!

There was loads of reading this month! Some months it's hard to get into a book - and some months I read three!

Where the Crawdads Sing - I really enjoyed this! I didn't know what to expect, but I liked it. At times it felt like not much was ~happening~ but it's very good at ambience and setting the scene. I could definitely picture everything in my mind! Not totally sure it's worth all the insane hype lately, but it was really good!

The Locked Door - I actually hated how this was written lol something about the dialogue and the writing style drove me insane, but I ended up finishing it in a few days. I think I just really wanted to figure out the twist (which I didn't guess). It was a decent mystery but I'll probably forget the story in a few months. Although, sometimes you just need books like these.

The Man Who Died Twice (second book in the Thursday Murder Club series) - I LOVED this. I loved this. Maybe even more than the first one. I really really loved it. Please read these books - I know I'm going to make my Mom read them when she visits.

What did you guys end up reading/listening to this month?? Let me know your thoughts!!

Listened to the crawdads book as I am looking for new things to listen to while driving long distances. I enjoyed it, some of the reviews were saying it had a lot of useless information buffing out the book, but I agree with Alanna, it created a nice atmosphere, and helped to put you into the world. I avoided the locked door as there were plenty of bad reviews about the audio book, and when I listened to the preview I agreed the narrator was hard to listen to, but I will definitely look at the murder club books next. I have been relying mostly on podcasts as I can get through stories quickly when driving a lot of distance, so buying books can get expensive, but podcasts can be hit or miss as they are mostly free. So looking forward to some more recommendations from the book club!

omg the writing was so bad lol I feel bad for the narrator!

I'll definitely be reading the third one! Loved it a lot

Omg Paradise Lost was so hard 😅 Although there's LOADS of supplemental help for it online - like chapter recaps and explanations and stuff

I agree with Alanna's reviews pretty much, I enjoyed The Crawdads, it had a good atmosphere and kept me guessing to the end. The Locked Door was OK, I didn't guess the ending either. Interesting what Alanna said about the dialogue, as I had the audio book and felt the narrator was not very good but it also may have been partly the author too. I'm about 2 hours into The Man Who Died Twice and enjoying it so far, I forgot about the meandering asides from the first book, I started to get irritated, but then I remembered they are part of the writing style and quite accurately represent the way elderly people tell stories.... 😂

I'd already read the Thursday Murder Club and so I went for The Man Who Died Twice - Richard Osman's books are an easy read, but they still keep my full attention and I whizzed through it and thoroughly enjoyed it - so much so that I've just ordered his third in the series "The Bullet that Missed".

I read Where The Crawdads Sing this month and liked it! I also read a bit of the 2nd Thursday Murder Club book but haven’t read much of it yet, I’ve already bought the 3rd book so I’m going to read them both soon! This month for my course I’m going to be reading Othello and I have to read Paradise Lost, but I know it’s going to be hard!
