However, I remembered my 2 summers in Australia where they shut all windows and draw curtains/blinds 'till it gets reasonable again, which could be weeks! It worked for me as it never got above 25 in here, 38 outside!

2022-07-23 12:44:35 +0000 UTCHumidity is awful, 25β and 80% RH here at present, heavy overcast and light rain, a soft day, time for a cool bath if the cold water is cool, has been up to 24β° from the storage tank lately, that's public swimming pool temp. A nice hot Espresso then the cool bath. One should never drink ice cold drinks in hot weather as are a shock to the stomach which is at body temp, cold drinks should be about 10β at their coldest, that's cellar temperature and drunk slowly. How's your electric bill, mine has doubled in a year inspite of only using the large draw appliances during the 9hr. cheap night period, I never use the cooker or oven during the peak rate 5 - 7pm. period, even the insect-o-cuter is turned off then (on a time switch). I've become a night owl, it's cooler then and the windows can be opened. All major cooking and baking done at night and chilled or frozen to be reheated when required. Dreadin g the coming winter, hopefull the gas boiler can stay off until mid November, I'll just have to make sure the woodshed is filled this autumn.

2022-07-23 09:47:59 +0000 UTCHi Alanna, Monday and Tuesday were definitely not fun. It peaked at 39c for us on Tues afternoon and I spent both days wandering around like a zombie. To add insult to injury we had two common fires with smoke blowing back towards the village, so that finally forced my hand in terms of window shutting - big shout out to Surrey, Hampshire & West Sussex Fire Brigades who all attended in awful conditions and are still up there 'damping down. the undergrowth. Can we go back to traditional British summers please!! PS: I've just finished the book too.

But I work in the basement of the hospital and in the rooms I work in thereβs lots of pipes that have hot water in them, so working was really hard this week because of how hot it was! Also good luck for planning your summer luau subathon! Itβs a great idea, if you need any help with planning it Iβm happy to help!
