Hi everyone! This week I looked at a Reddit thread talking about the most absolutely British stuff that you won't see anywhere else!

Big thanks to Aaron for the suggestion - hope you guys like the video!

When I was first given the Official Secrets Act to sign I was petrified - my manager took me into his office gave me half an hour to read it before coming back and getting me to sign. It felt like a big thing then, as does 'serving the Government of the day without fear or favour' - you don't have to agree with their politics, just do the job!!

My favourite type of video, nice one!

I can't think of any silly character/mascot type that run in elections here. I think the only times I have had baked beans for breakfast is at a sugar shack during maple syrup season in the spring or maybe as a side at a couple breakfast places - one was very Brit inspired an dI think Cora's was the other. But it certainly isn't a common item other than the tins in the grocery stores. We also have the Heinz Maple Baked Beans...are those a thing in the UK too?

How about people living in Narrow Boats. I think that's so cool and uniquely British...

Me Blobby is a lovely, cuddly character!

Pigeon racing is also popular in France and Belgium, I think Bog Snorkeling has gone international too but having a World Championship does not mean the world just an open competition. The World Championship Marbles held at a Sussex pub (in Tinsley Green) annually.

I hope you don't get soggy bottoms, your baking.

It is a shame that some Civil Servants and MP's have occasionally forgotten that they have signed it, probably because it has lost its teeth a bit, like an old dog. It seems to be rarely implemented or cases brought under it. The copy I signed way back, that a I wish to forget it was that long ago, had the death penalty as the ultimate punishment. Leaks, even a colander is more water tight. Maybe having a smart phone on one's person whilst on the Westminster Estate or at work should now fall under it.

That famous quote from John Smeaton when asked if he had a message for any terrorists thinking of attacking Glasgow: "Don't come here, we'll set right about you!". Having been in Glasgow city centre on a Saturday night, can confirm that's wise advice. πŸ˜€

Good luck with your final exam, it'll be such a relief!

Yes!! I think that might have been in a Patreon video about surprising Canadian facts? Incredible. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

Oh my god πŸ˜‚ I love it

Love the vid! How about an "Activities I had never done/never seen/never heard of before I came to the UK" vid? A follow on from the Cheese-rolling/Pantomime. Some examples: Pigeon racing. Morris Dancing. Bog Snorkelling.

The story on Glasgow Airport missed a key point. The terrorist was on fire when they kicked him. On a similar point, the videos of people walking away from terrorist incidents with their pints in London

Having been a UK civil servant all of my career and latterly based in and around the cultural centre of lunacy known as the Palace of Westminster, it's sometimes hard to recall things that AREN'T absurdly British. Thankfully the Official Secrets Act will save everyone from me revealing the most appalling onesπŸ˜€πŸ€£πŸ˜£ Hope you have a good time with the family back home.

Malcolm Lawrence

That was really funny! I have my last exam this week, and my last ever day of school! Hope you’re having a a nice time in Canada!

Aaron Conway

Great video. I seem to recall someone telling me that Canada created a law that states saying "Sorry" after an altercation or incident is not an admission of fault or guilt, because it's so common for Canadians to apologise in such situations....Oh Canada, please never change. πŸ˜‚ πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

At college we elected a house-brick to represent the undergraduates at the college council. (Sort of a protest that our ideas were never taken up). To give them their due, the college governing body did allow the brick to attend the council meetings! πŸ™‚ Fun video as always Alanna, hope your trip is going well.
