I was really confused when the scones came out and they looked nothing like what I think of as a scone. Turns out American scones and British scones are very different!

2022-05-14 12:31:18 +0000 UTCThat was during the school hols. I was cheap labour (free). At least the bedroom was warmer (the duvet was on the roof, thatch) and the bed softer than at school. I also got bought many a decent pint in the village pub, a 'posh' speaking boy was a novelty in that very rural village (I think they were hoping to get me sloshed, didn't work most times), inspite of being equidistant from Ely and Cambridge, the local accent was a cross between a Lincoln and a Norfolk one.

2022-05-14 11:03:50 +0000 UTCHooray, a baking challenge that worked, well done Alanna. You will have to overcome your phobia of using your hands, we have had them far longer than appliances. Yes the clotted cream is best made the day before so it can coagulate overnight in the fridge. I've only ever made it with the milk straight from a Jersey Cow, that was years ago, never tried doing it with commercially made cream. My Aunt took making it from scratch literally, first milk the cow, once the milk and cream had separated a bit one could have breakfast and the cream could be made after as one now had the milk for the porridge and tea.

2022-05-14 10:05:58 +0000 UTCThe scones came out really well didn't they - I've only ever made one batch many years ago and they definitely didn't look that good, although I've never tried to make my own clotted cream before. Hope Croatia was as good as the facebook photos suggested.

2022-05-14 09:22:37 +0000 UTCIβm with the butler on the pronunciation but with you on the construction π Love scones, I was actually taught to make them in school (feel like that might have been common in schools), been ages since I made someβ¦ my gran used to make the best cheese scones, Iβve been told I need to continue her scone (& sausage roll) legacy! #pressure lol This was great, hope you enjoyed Croatia π
