Nice job! I love a crumble, either apple or rhubarb. My family have always briefly cooked the apples down in a saucepan first with the sugar, then put in the dish. Seems to be a more even consistency at the end. Just sat here drinking a 1698 beer while waiting for dinner to cook: very nice.

Thanks for the video, I hope you and the butler have a great week. I’m enjoying seeing you three times a week by the way, I hope the Friday video works out well for you.

I made my first crumble not long ago!

I've seen a few ideas online of people trying to do simple baking like cookies or pies and the like without a recipe. So you could try an idea like that maybe.

Brett Carruthers

The crumble looks great ! I might have to give this one a try . Thanks for the video Alanna !

Nice job, Alanna, I prefer crumbles to pies. The only times I have had Apple crumble it was made with Bramley apples as other people have mentioned. I haven't tried it with granny smiths though so I dunno which would be better? I do love rhubarb crumble over apple, I'm not sure if rhubarb is a thing in north America, might be a good one to try if you haven't had it before.

Still really enjoying this series Alanna, please keep on going. Apple crumble is pure comfort food and, as always with most of these British traditional puds, to be served with custard every time! Mmmm!

The use of Bramley's rather than Granny Smith's would have produced a better result but you may need more sugar unless you like tart desserts. Putting a Pie Vent in the dish first will allow steam to escape and not have all the liquid in the bottom. Who needs a processor, that's what fingers are for, rubbing the cold butter and sugar into the flour until it looks like bread crumbs. I think your oven may run a bit colder than indicated, every oven is different. Mine can run up to 20℃ cooler than set to. An accurate oven thermometer is a must have. Stay safe, I hope Eunice was not too damaging where you are. I was lucky, it almost missed, for once on the right side of the valley, others in the town and immediate area were not. no power outage to this street At least it struck us between 05:00 - 06:00 Friday, all in bed. I will be spending rest of day clearing up the wrecked garden of several neighbours fence panels, all ended up against my very tall (4m), thick, side wall.

You can do mushy pea crumble for the “old” people next!

Hi, Alanna, that was very entertaining and it looked really good. I could have eaten that. I must agree with Gem I prefer rhubarb crumble maybe try that as well. Another enjoyable video, you certainly entertain us well.

I don't have another recipe but you could add blackberries and as someone has already said Bramley apples.

Arthur Gatward

Thanks Aaron, really appreciate it!

Thanks Stuart! Have a great weekend!

Oh nice! Maybe next time I try this, I'll do the stewed apples version!

You did great, I know the point that of Butlers kitchen is that you’re not meant to know what you’re doing, but everything always turns out well, I think you’re a good chef/baker! I’ve never had apple crumble before! Thanks for your patreon videos, I really like them!

Great job Alanna! One of my favourites that I do cook reguarly. Few differences to your recipe: I'd use Bramleys (the go-to cooking apple) rather than Granny Smiths. I'd also soften the sliced apples with sugar in a pan for a few minutes before layering. Finally, rather than grilling the top, I'd have just cooked for an extra 5 to 10 minutes to get the top crispier. As with most British desserts, I'd eat with custard/cream/ice-cream 😊 Thanks for the video as always - have a great weekend!

Love Crumble!!! Ultimate favourite is rhubarb crumble but apple is yum too! Personally I would have stewed the apples first; they would have gone mushy but everything would have been less wet lol Looked amazing though 🥳
