Love it or hate it!

Recently I watched The Green Knight and as you can see from the Rotten Tomatoes score, it's pretty divided!

I thought the film was beautiful and very strange. If you go into it knowing that it's a medieval tale trying to teach something, I think that helps understand what's going on.

"The Green Knight honors and deconstructs its source material in equal measure, producing an absorbing adventure that casts a fantastical spell"

"For better and for worse, the beautifully filmed Green Knight is a different take on a classic story that takes its time in the telling and leaves a lot open to interpretation."

If you're interested in watching a range of different types of movies, I would definitely recommend it! Get the popcorn ready!

Cool! Hope you enjoy the film!

I didn't know anything about the original story - which helped in some ways, but also made it a lot more confusing lol

Adventures and Naps

"incomprehensible gorgeousness" is a perfect way to put it lol

Adventures and Naps

Yeah I read it's based on "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, a late 14th-century Middle English chivalric romance poem" Didn't know the story, though - hadn't heard of it before the film!

I haven't seen A Ghost Story yet! Should add it to the list

Adventures and Naps

I agree! Always nice to watch something a bit different

Read the story/epic back in high school. Don’t remember much but I liked it. I’m very much looking forward to watching this.

The Raven

Been meaning to watch this - I just noted on a reply that I recently read Simon Armitage's rendition of the original so it'll be interesting to see how much they actually followed the poem and how much gets... well, weird as well but in its own way.

Iain Brown

Actually an anonymous poet from around the same time as Chaucer (though probably the other end of the country). I've not read Tolkien's rendition but I recently got hold of Simon Armitage's, which is rendered in very clean, modern English and unostentatious but really very beautiful.

Iain Brown

Bit of a weird one - it was beautiful, but I didn’t have a clue what was going on. The scene with the giants kind of summed up the whole incomprehensible gorgeousness.

Bruce Bush

I was going to read the book first as it was written by J RR Tolkien, but looks like viewing first now.

Graham Lavers

I very much enjoyed it. You know its gonna be weird coming from David Lowery, the same guy who did A Ghost Story.

Brett Carruthers

I really liked this film a lot. It’s weird yes, however it was a nice change of pace from all the Hollywood blockbusters. Definitely recommend. Also Dev Patel is always great in everything.
