I've had like, microwaved/cheap spotted dick but nothing homemade

Adventures and Naps

Sticky toffee pudding is pretty awful. Have you tried spotted dick yet? Track pads in glue is a Ration pack variant of random inedible British stuff. Take care you both.

chris

It's a Mexican cake and the name means three milks. It's a sponge cake made with evaporated milk, condensed milk and heavy cream.

Andrew8468

Agreed!!

Adventures and Naps

Getting some exercise in, that's for sure! 😂

Adventures and Naps

We finished it! It really grew on me by the end of it!

Adventures and Naps

Oh my god I didn't notice lol how gross!!

Adventures and Naps

Manchester tart - never seen one of those before!! I'll have to add it to the list!

Adventures and Naps

I was surprised that I liked it so much! It really grew on me after a few plates lol

Adventures and Naps

Ooh, a chocolate version sounds lovely! I bet both versions would be really good with ice cream, too

Adventures and Naps

interesting! Can't say I've been that interested in prunes or dates just yet lol

Adventures and Naps

Good to know!

Adventures and Naps

That's awesome!! If it's a similar recipe, it's really easy!

Adventures and Naps

I think it would be really nice with ice cream - or custard!

Adventures and Naps

😂 Thanks Andrew!

Adventures and Naps

Clearly!! Chef-quality pudding

Adventures and Naps

A WHO cake?? Never heard of that one before lol

Adventures and Naps

Poking the holes and pouring over the sauce reminds me a little of the milks at the end when making a Tres Leches cake.

The Raven

So why am I not surprised that one of the Murder Friends hosts enjoyed stabbing things? 😄

The Raven

Great video. Time to book your place on next years Great British Bake Off?

Andy McGarty

Well done, might be the best result yet. Can we start a new drinking game? Have a shot everytime you say yum :) Tho Saturday morning might be a bit early for that

Andrew8468

I don't think I've ever had real authentic sticky toffee pudding. I think a lot of places serve ice cream on it. The treacle is certainly what gives it the stickyness and flavour. The butler will have to get you a stand mixer for xmas.

Brett Carruthers

Yum!!! My friend makes a very yummy sticky toffee pudding. I just checked my Mary Berry book- there is a section on British Favourites - and it has a sticky toffee pudding recipe, might give it a go one day.

I think that if you start with Pru Leith's Cookery Bible you won't go far wrong with anything. Most other TV cook/chefs simply present their 'clever' alternatives to Leith's recipes, which often results in a dish that doesn't match anyone's traditional experience.

David O

was going to put a comment like that Mr Smith. Can you imagine getting that past a modern branding panel? "How about we have a dead lion with flies buzzing around it and a bible quote?" But it's iconic.

David O

You can do it without dates, a lot of people skip on the dates. Some people even use a bit of ginger as a replacement.

Black Treacle is Molasses, the waste product from sugar refining, it is what Rum is distilled from, which is the best way to consume it. A great effort Alanna, Nigellas' recipes are almost idiot proof and inexact measurements don't make that much difference. I love dates but like the boxes one gets at Christmas, just mind the stones. They are not a dried fruit but that is how they ripen, looking like they have been dried. A good source of fibre. One can also use Prunes which are dried plums but not quite the same taste and they have to be pitted, messy and time consuming.

The Kenwood XL is a better mixer for around the same price. Its design has hardly changed since introduced in the 1950's. They have many attachments available including a Mincer, pasta roller and a potato peeler (a miniature version of the one in the chippy).

Tony S

You need the sauce on a STP because that makes it!

Malcolm Ross

Lyle’s Golden Syrup is also gorgeous. The motto you read is biblical!

Malcolm Ross

Hi, Alanna, that was brilliant, I really enjoyed it and I love sticky toffee pudding but like Gem I would have custard with it. That was mighty good and it looked fine to me. I wonder what would happen if you did away with the dates and replaced them with chocolate. That might be good.

Stephen Parker

Who needs a mixer when you have good old fashion Canadian elbow grease and determination...🇨🇦💪

Steve Mikre

Well did you and the Butler finish it or did end up in the bin ..Thanks for this week's vid .Have a good weekend. .Byeeee

Mark Walsh

Black Treacle is just Marmite in a fancy can! Also did you not notice the lion on the front of the can! If you look closely, its clearly dead with flies flying around it! “Out of the strong came forth sweetness” YUM 😋

Jamie Smith

Made my Saturday morning! Crying with laughter at points🤣 Brilliant! I’m not a lover of sticky toffee pudding, more of an apple pie/crumble sort of guy and of course chocolate but if you haven’t already would love to see you take on making a Bakewell or even a Manchester tart. Thanks again 😃

Cloudcatcher

Always fun watching your cooking skills - not my favourite dessert but that actually looked very nice.

Mark J

Sorry, I meant with actual chunks, all the ones I've had the dates must've been mashed up

Will

Cheers Paul!

Adventures and Naps

"Sticky toffee pudding, also known as sticky date pudding in Australia and New Zealand, is an English dessert consisting of a moist sponge cake, made with finely chopped dates, covered in a toffee sauce and often served with a vanilla custard or vanilla ice-cream." How can you make it without dates??

Adventures and Naps

It actually started to grow on me - we ended up eating the rest lol but I think I would prefer a crumble instead!

Adventures and Naps

Thanks so much Aaron!

Adventures and Naps

Interesting! Looks like everyone wants to claim that they made it first lol

Adventures and Naps

Thanks Stuart!

Adventures and Naps

I thought so too but maybe my Tesco doesn't stock fresh ones. OH well! Hopefully I'll never need them again lol

Adventures and Naps

Looking goof I could just eat some off to Tesco's app I go. Tip for getting treacle/tar out is a hot spoon. I can help clean up as long as I can like the spoon and bowl out.

Paul Brown

I just checked and according to Wikipedia one possible origin is Canadian. One of the people credited with inventing it says she was told the recipe but Canadian Air force officers stationed in the UK

Simon

What's going on with these cooking videos lately, that was really good. I'm missing the old kitchen disasters 😂. I watched really carefully for the jump cut when she slipped in the store bought one but nope, all legit. Good job. I like a Sticky Toffee Pudding but I don't think I've ever had one with date pieces in before, not sure about that.

Will

Well done, it looked great! Personally I would have had custard with it though… I like sticky toffee pudding but it wouldn’t be my first choice, much rather have rhubarb crumble or maybe treacle tart (don’t worry it’s not the tar kind lol), yum!!!! Hope you’re having a good weekend 😄

Gem

This was so funny! Thanks for all your patreon videos! I really look forward to them, they’re always great! I changed my patron payment to annually, so I’m going to be on patreon for another year!

Aaron Conway

I’d say that was a complete success. I know they are ridiculously expensive, but a Kitchenaid stand mixer would be useful and look amazing in that fantastic kitchen.

Dave Wilkinson

I love sticking toffee pudding. I think you made in the traditional way, the individual ones are a modern invention

Simon

Not a huge fan of sticky toffee pudding, but my better half is! Looks to me like you did a great job making it - I love Nigella's recipes 🙂 Hope you're both doing well.

Stuart Summers

Dates are usually with the fresh fruit in a long box. Black treacle is what we call your molasses. Here for all your foodie questions!
