It's been a busy week over here at House Naps! What have you guys been up to?

Here's where I bought my glasses in case you're in the market for new ones, too.

Wore contacts for years until I got LASIK. Best money I ever spent. Now 16 years later, back in glasses. I do have a prescription for contacts that are multifocal. They are weird, but I stopped wearing them when the big C-19 came about. Will be going back for more soon.

'Alanna attempts every UK accent' video now, please

Great video! (Sorry I'm late, been busy with hospitals etc.) I wore contacts for ages! I had the 7 day ones, ones that you leave in for 6.5 days, take them out in the evening, then whack a new pair in the next morning. Great, I had normal eyesight, even at night, for 7 days! Until I got an ulcer under one and I nearly lost my eye! It's OK now but it was very scary for a while! I had my cataracts done a few years back now so don't need glasses for distance. Another problem that I had was dehydration (I don't need to remind you to keep drinking!). I was riding a motorcycle all day and in the summer it gets so hot, wearing all the gear! Sometimes I dried out so much the contacts stuck to my eyeball! In other news: https://www.statefoodsafety.com/Resources/Resources/why-do-americans-put-eggs-in-the-fridge nuff said!

You do get used to it pretty quickly, but I still get the odd day where I have to have several goes at putting them in!

David Powell

Nice one! I'm on day 7 I think and I can now get them in and out typically on the first try 🥳

Adventures and Naps

Thank you! Both my parents were laser-eye-people.. shows where I got my brilliant eyesight from lol

Adventures and Naps

In the early days of contact lens wearing I found eye drops helpful. You can get contact lens compatible drops in supermarkets for £2-3 a bottle, but do check the label as not all eye drops are contact lens compatible. I've been wearing them ever since I had a free trial of them at Specsavers over 20 years ago, and just like you I took an embarrassingly long time to put them in/take them out for the first time at the opticians!

David Powell

For Worcester try saying Wuster. ;) Good luck with the contact thing, a friend of mine had laser correction which worked well for him.

chris

If you're interested at all in contacts, I'd give it a go! Specsavers let's you do a trial without having to commit to a subscription plan or anything.

Adventures and Naps

Thanks so much Graham! I've gotten to the point where I feel them in my eyes less and less each day 🥳

Adventures and Naps

Nice!!

Adventures and Naps

Just looked u, you can get the lancashire sauce crisps on Amazon lol

Graham Lavers

Hi Alana, just a thought on the contacts thing, I wore them for ages. Thought I would be earful and squeamish about them, but had no problems with them at all. wish I had them sooner, you will be alright with them .Have every faith in you. Had my second jab in May, had a bit of a sore arm for a couple of days , that was all.

Graham Lavers

I had a terrible time with the 2nd jab for a few days. We're all gonna need booster shots by next year. I've tossed around the idea of getting contacts. I don't know if it's for me or not.

Brett Carruthers

Wooo yay for science!

Adventures and Naps

Well done with the contacts!!! I remember as a kid being fascinated when my parents would put theirs in or take them out and asking a million questions about it. Woo woo for the second jab as well :D

Lucky! My last job in Ontario at the private school board didn't offer any eye coverage - which is crazy because so many of us worked at computers!

Adventures and Naps

Hope you have a good eye test! That's great that it's free

Adventures and Naps

God, that was years ago! Good to know there's some Lancashire stuff down here though - I'll keep an eye out for those crisps

Adventures and Naps

Thanks Will!!

Adventures and Naps

Thanks so much!!

Adventures and Naps

Thanks Stephen!

Adventures and Naps

🥳 fully vaxed crew!

Adventures and Naps

Ahh hope they haven't lost it on you!

Adventures and Naps

Thinking about putting anything near my eyes makes me nervous so kudos to you for taking the plunge, As for the cost of the eye exams you get reimbursed if you have benefits through your job and mine gives me $200 towards the cost of glasses. Anyway, how many bags of chips do you have left?

Andrew8468

Spent over 30 years hiding behind my bifocal's so contacts will be a never, did explore the possibility of having them Lasered but it is a second mortgage job here so will stick with the reactions bifocal lenses and a pair of reading only glasses for use when on the computer, the bifocal's give me neck ache holding my head back so the screen is in focus. Must book an eye test as these are now coming up to three years old and it's free here and the health system pays €45 towards the cost of the glasses. Thanks for the reminder with this video.

Lancashire, 1 Yorkshire, 0 P.S. I think you taste tested some crumbly Lancashire cheese in your cheese testing video, when you had the cracker disaster all over the floor!

Jamie Smith

Great video, I wonder how many people had to look away during the "contacts" part? I love the money hat idea, I hope none of the sponsors object to it.

Will

Alanna another great and informative vid ..The pond looks like a very peaceful place..The stuff about the contacts was great ..The hoodie was from us ..Many thank again. .

Mark Walsh

Hi, Alanna, you are brave. I said on Discord that talk of contact lenses makes me shiver. It still does. Good luck with them. Those crisps looked really interesting, I've never heard of them. Great video. Stay safe.

Stephen Parker

You can talk all you want about getting comfortable with contacts, fingering my eyeballs will never be my preference! BTW, “I’m gonna get off of the toilet now” should be the ending to all your videos. 😊

Holger Steinwedel

Wow, respect for taking the plunge with the contacts - I just could never do it myself. What also blows me away is that 2 years have passed since you were trying out various designs of glasses, which is insane because I can remember commenting on the designs and no way does it seem that long. Well done on getting fully jabbed up too!!

Malcolm Lawrence

This was so cool! Looks like you had a great week! Sorry that the package I sent is taking so long! I ordered it near the end of July but I still haven't heard anything! I'll try emailing them today to try find out what's happened to it!
