The haggis looks a lot like dirty (cajun) rice. Other than the spicy heat, it probably tastes similar too. Lots of the same cuts of beef end up on both.

The Raven

If you think haggis is good, have a try of tripe with potato and onion 😜

ssaunders2k

Haggis neaps and tatties, washed down with a tin of ice cold irn bru. Nothing finer. Local pub does a brilliant haggis nachos though, with quite of bit of melted cheese on the top (which doesn't help the calories, lol) but it does go rather well with an ice cold pint or three.

ssaunders2k

I used to microwave it, just burnt more and looked more like Black Pudding. But I love Haggis

Peter Bradbury

Sounds wonderful!

Adventures and Naps

Love haggis! I order mine online from a fantastic butcher in Stonehaven. I like to serve it on a bed of potato and celeriac mash with a béarnaise sauce with a dash of whiskey. 😋

Stephen Wadkin

And - in case nobody else has put you right, Alanna, you pronounce it “OFF-ull”

Steven Parkes

Think Faggots, but bigger and much more stronger flavour! You definitely need to dish it up with potatoes and root veg, otherwise it’s too much on its own, in my experience.

Steven Parkes

Neeps are turnip but folks use swede with haggis too.

Tazz1669

Good job Alanna! I've never had haggis.

jillian b

Remember, everything is edible once. Give it a go :)

chris

You don't keep a spare sheep's stomach lying around the naps test kitchen to make haggis from scratch? Is next week gonna be Welsh week?

Brett Carruthers

Haggis is fine by me, though I prefer gravy on it, served with chips and breaded onion rings.

Garry Mothinabox

I love both of them, by the way!!

Steven Parkes

I’ve tried haggis before and it was okay - but I should’ve served it up with potatoes and.... neeps...... now then, in England the yellow, round root veg is called a Swede, while the smaller, white one is called a Turnip. I do believe, though, that the Scots AND the Irish name them the other way round!! In which case, what the Scots call “neeps” are actually what we English call “swede”. Can anyone confirm that?

Steven Parkes

I bet it would be great with a roast dinner!

Adventures and Naps

I hope you're feeling better, congrats on the second jab! I'm jealous!

Adventures and Naps

That's a really good point!

Adventures and Naps

😂 Maybe!!

Adventures and Naps

True, but it certainly needs some potatoes with it!

Adventures and Naps

Love Haggis. Great video as usual, so pleased you carried on eating after reading the ingredients. Made me feel very hungry.

Andy McGarty

if you had, say, cereal for breakfast and a green salad for lunch, those '62% of recommended daily...' figures don't sound so harmful.

David O

I admire how you are not afraid to try new things. Today it's haggis tomorrow skydiving...

Steve Mikre

The normalisation of eating the muscles, skin and bones of animals by society in recent history vs eating the organs is such an interesting concept to me!

Kate

A stuffed braised Ox Heart (Cow) is delicious and very cheap from a good butcher, it will feed a family, is healthy as low in fat. Just ask the butcher to remove the ventricles unless skilled with a sharp knife. I love them along with Liver and Kidneys. Not so keen on Brains and Tripe.

Tony S

Pork! sacrilege, should be Mutton or at least hogget, just about get away with lamb but Pork what are M&S thinking. We do not eat enough offal these days, it just goes in the bin or dog food tins. To be a responsible meat eater then all parts of an animal should be consumed, we used to years ago. You should have read Robbie Burns "Address to the Haggis" before eating. With a Whisky in hand. Best with turnip/swede and potatoes, neaps an' tatties as the Scots say. Swede's are actually a Brassica, the same family as Cabbage and Sprouts.

Tony S

I've never heard the word "Yum" said with such an overwelming sense of doom and foreboding! I'm 3/4 Scottish and have many relations in the Stranear area. (down the bottom left, nearest to Ireland) But I never had Haggis on our family pilgrimages north of the border. I've just got over strong after-effects of my second Covid (Pfizer) jab and your video made me feel a whole lot better! On my next shopping trip I'll get a Haggis from M&S if I can raise the finance (Your recommendations of M&S chips - Spot on!)

Stuart Hamilton

The thought of it is definitely worse than the taste. I tried giving it to my kids when they were younger and they all hated it. Personally i like it as part of a roast dinner, potatoes and veg all covered with a nice gravy.

Adam Clark

I've had Haggis and its actually OK, but given all of the tales that surround it I thought that 'OK' was a bit of a let down and if I saw it on a menu I'd probably pick something else, but it isn't unpleasant at all. Even so well done for cooking and eating it....while you're on offal, maybe try some tripe next (seriously, don't!!).

Malcolm Lawrence

Gets my vote 😁

Stuart Summers

like haggis, and yest its made from the bits left over, but its away to use all the stuff and not be wasteful. plus back when it was first made, you had to use everything, in order to survive

Lester Townsend

Thanks for the video, you’re stronger than I am because I don’t think I could eat it but I’m probably better off not knowing what’s in lots of things I do eat. I hope you have a good weekend and that you and your family are staying well.

Sarah Hogg

I've eaten crickets, mealworms, and scorpions... never eaten offal in any form though. Though my dad seems to love haggis, maybe I should get him to save some next time he has it. 😝

Mohegan13

It's all in the description, muscle and fat from the arse of a cow does not sound as tempting as Rump Steak

Arthur Gatward

Yum! Love haggis - with mashed potato and swede, and maybe some peas for a splash of colour. Maybe you could do an offal taste test video: liver, kidney, tongue, tripe, brawn ;-)

Dr Philip J Naylor

Oh and I just remembered something I saw on QI about haggis The Rabbie Burns poem calls it "master of the puddin race" Which someone translated to German and back and got "Fuhrer of the sausage people"

Simon

I guess because in Scotland "neeps and tatties" *is* what it actually is. 😀

Stuart Summers

My assessment of haggis is about the same as yours. Nice but not so nice I'd go out of my way for it. Why they sat tatties and neeps? Remember Scotland is linguistically complex. There is Gaelic, Scots (related to English but different enough that many consider it a separate language) and various flavours of Scottish English. And even in English we have a lot of words for Turnip Weirdly because it was originally steamed microwaving haggis isn't too bad.

Simon

Haggis is traditionally sheep offal and is cooked in the sheep's stomach. I like to put a little whisky on it. I love it but I'm Scottish and grew up eating it 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Gary D

I’m not a Scot, but I like haggis... so sue me. I was brought up when it was quite normal to eat inexpensive meat like liver, tongue, kidney and heart, so I don’t have that feeling of “disgust” that folks experience nowadays. Haggis isn’t the healthiest food, but it (and eating other offal) was a way of using as much of an animal as possible

Andy Arnold

I guess it was cheap back in the day!

Adventures and Naps

Why do people say neeps and tatties instead of what it actually is?? I can't say I've ever had a swede/turnip

Adventures and Naps

Thank you, you too!!

Adventures and Naps

😂

Adventures and Naps

Well I've eaten haggis. All I can say is why..Why throw all the good bits of the animal away then use the cap bits .

Mark Walsh

Before all your Patreon subscribers shout it, I will: "neeps and tatties" are the traditional accompaniment for haggis. I personally quite like haggis, but like you I have to switch my brain off from thinking about the ingredients. The only way to start a Saturday is your video - thanks as always.

Stuart Summers

I couldn't have done that! Good for you for trying! This was so funny! Thank you so much for making the video, I appreciate it! Hope you have a nice weekend!

Aaron Conway

I’m generally up for trying anything but haggis is one of those things that I just can’t!!! Well done for trying it but I think I’m gonna stay on the fence for this one 😂

Gem

Massive respect. had it once and never again. I'm not a fan of it to be honest. You did trigger my Hey Google. when saying how good food was. it went it was total scrumptious and there is many food I like.
