I love a Tim Tam Slam!!

Adventures and Naps

Great video Alanna. My go-to biscuit for dunking is the Aussie Tim Tam, though lately making do with Penguins. Try the 'Tim Tam Slam' - bite off opposite corners of the biscuit and then use it like a straw to suck your beverage of choice through it. It's a bit of an art to know when to stop and avoid turning the biscuit into a soggy mess though.

Whether it's coffee or tea, I think the only things worth dunking are shortbread cookies or biscotti. Maybe I should add donuts, but they have to be the plain kind otherwise the absorption doesn't work. After all dunking is really about absorption. Does anyone in the UK eat donuts? There's another subject for testing if you're not on a strict diet. Thanks for your work.!

V60 😍

Blame Morrison's for their selection!

Adventures and Naps

I'm very disappointed malted milk wasn't included, that's my go-to dunking biscuit

Tom Hardie

3-5 seconds sounds about right!

Thanks Sarah!

Thank you for the video showing this important research. I’m very glad that you learned how to make a cup of tea and now actually like it. I didn’t know about Amazon doing grocery shopping but I’m going to give them a miss, it sounds like a disaster. See you Tuesday, thanks again

i am more of a tea person, but coffee is good as well. as to plain biscuits , i do like milk chocolate Digestive, but a plain Digestive, is good as well if you have had to much sweet stuff, but it has to be McVitie's Digestives , not any old plain stuff . custard creams are a staple of any biscuits , box as is bourbons . do so like a hobnob as well but you are right , not the best for dunking . as a side note, dunking for me is 3 to 5 seconds , to get the right amount of dunking time .

Lester Townsend

Bourbon is pronounced bor-bon. The thing with dunking is time spent dunking, but that time varies depending on temperature. The hotter the liquid, the less time you'd dunk before the biscuit gets too soggy and breaks into the cup. Rich Teas are for the older generation, eg over 60's. Like has been said. Put the plain digestives into a ziplock bah and smash them up with a rolling pin or similar. Once broken into medium sized crumbs, empty into a bowl and add some room temprature butter and mix in. Once thoroughly mixed, empty mixture into a medium sized baking dish. Make a flat level surface and compact it down, then place the dish in the fridge for an hour. You have the perfact base for a cheesecake now.

As someone who is now a home shopper for a supermarket. Always click 'No Substitutes'. My palm pilot, TC70x, tells me where to go and what to pick. Last week for example. I was to pick a pack of two courgettes, we didn't have any, so it said to pick two loose courgettes, we didn't have any of those either, so it suggested........... butternut squash. Because apparently, they are similar. Always tick no substitutes and allow time for if it's not available. Also, don't pick slots before 9am or after 5pm as they likely won't of been put on the shelf yet, of other shoppers have already picked the items off the shelves and they are empty. FYI, if you tick for carrier bags (usually a 40p option) and don't get them, go online and you get Β£1 back to use on your next shop (at least that is the system at my company, the supermarket that starts and ends with 'A's in it's four letter name. ;)

As for YouTube, another channel mentioned that they had noticed a recent drop in the number of views. Apparently the YouTube algorithm now de-prioritizes videos that aren't monetised, so even though he doesn't want to monetise them, he is likely to be forced into doing so (otherwise people won't see his videos that fight misinformation about science).

What to do with all the plain digestives: smash them up and use them as a cheese cake base. What to do with all the rich tea biscuits: bin them - they are of use to neither man nor beast! My go to biscuit for coffee is a caramelised biscuit (e.g. Biscoff), for tea I'm quite partial to crunch creams, coconut rings and hobnobs. πŸ˜‹

David Powell

I hope you complained to Morrison's and Amazon. You should've just baked your own custard creams!

Brett Carruthers

Fingers crossed it goes OK! Figured I'll post some over the next few weeks and see what happens..

Adventures and Naps

Your dunking method sounds so scientific! πŸ˜‚

Adventures and Naps

That's why you need a quick dunk!

Adventures and Naps

I've never heard of those but will keep my eye out, just in case!!

Adventures and Naps

No sooner does she tell us that she's looking to boost her You Tube numbers then hey presto, the first of Alanna's shorts (not literally) is posted. Great idea, that didn't take you long!

Malcolm Lawrence

Good to know where you standle on those biscuits. Sorry to hear about viewing figures.

Arthur Gatward

The look of disgust vs the look of the Alanna YUUUMMMMM. πŸ‘πŸ‘ You're drinking tea now, what the what!! Chocolate digestives always remind me of being a kid at my grandparents house. They are excelllent.

jillian b

Nice to see you drinking tea. I suppose your dormant British Gene's are now kicking in. Maybe you are at the start of a strange metamorphic event. Try dunking the rich tea three at a time in not to hot tea for four seconds trying to leave a little gap between each one.

Martin Sellman

Thanks for another top-notch test Alanna. The only way Rich Tea can be a good dunker is by taking them "to the edge" and leaving them so long that they are on the point of collapsing into your tea - it's a risky business I can tell you! Sad to hear that the You Tube numbers aren't so great - how about an update on how you're settling back into life in the UK now that you've been back for a bit or, maybe do an outside broadcast like you did way back before you went back to Canada...so long as you can find a decent day of course 🌧🌦

Malcolm Lawrence

Nope! This is the quickest way to spoil a good cup of coffee. Who wants bits of biscuit at the bottom of the cup?

Adam Clark

Thanks, after a crazy week that was exactly what I needed! A cup of tea and some biscuits. This time of the year Dutch speculaas are my favourite dunking biscuits. Don’t know if you have these in the UK.

Holger Steinwedel

You're not a dunker?? Fascinating! Thanks for the support though, really appreciate it!

Adventures and Naps

Can't say I've had those ones yet, I'll add them to my list!

Adventures and Naps

Hey David, thank you so much for the tips! I honestly hadn't thought about Vimeo, I didn't realise it was still used. I'll have a look and see what's up. Cable tie is great shout, I'll dig around and see if that works, too! Thank you!

Adventures and Naps

As long as they have chocolate on them and aren't the plain ones!

Adventures and Naps

I love anything shortbread, so I can imagine those would withstand dunking. Haven't come across Morning Coffee biscuits before but I'll keep an eye out. I actually thought the 4-mins was perfect!! But I don't know anything lol

Adventures and Naps

Thanks so much Gem!! And thank you for not dunking biscuits into hot squash!!!!!

Adventures and Naps

I think you're right. Is there anything better than a double stuffed Oreo??

Adventures and Naps

Thanks Aaron, you too!

Adventures and Naps

Thanks so much John! Can't say I've had a ginger snap in the UK before.. I wonder if they're different from North American ones?? I'll have to see!

Adventures and Naps

Bourbon is pronounced Borbon, like the French royalty, rather than Burbun, like the American whisky. Pro tip: don't eat Hobnobs in bed, the crumbs get everywhere and are really painful. Maybe you could plan some "days out" videos for between lockdowns?

Dr Philip J Naylor

This gave me the shivers Alanna. I love tea/coffee and biscuits but I'm definitely not a dunker. Apparently it's a habit that harks back to the days of Nelson's Navy. The infamous ship's biscuit was baked as hard as concrete and had to be soaked to avoid breaking one's teeth. Well I'm not sailing the high seas and prefer my biscuits crunchy, and the thought of bits floating in my tea turns my stomach. You're always entertaining Alanna so don't be discouraged by the views, I'm sure they'll pick up. I feel sorry for those that are missing out on all the fun. Take care.

Stephen Wadkin

A cup of tea with a packet of Fox's Butter Crinkle Crunch is perfection. I don't think it's ever occurred to me to dunk anything in a cup of coffee.

Dr Philip J Naylor

David

Malted Milk are the king of dunkers.

Andrew

I've always had good results from the Amazon delivery; they should've let you approve or decline replacements through the app but I did find I had to open it regularly.

Andrew

Nice work! Some suggestions for a future round of testing: 1. There are biscuits specifically designed for coffee, they're called "Morning Coffee". Popular in the 1970s but still around today. 2. Shortbread fingers have maximum liquid holding capability. My favourites for dunking. 3. Huge shame you couldn't get custard-creams, however if they disintegrate during dunking the collateral damage can be devastating. Also, who leaves tea-bags in for 4 minutes?

Stuart Summers

1st veg crisps instead of s&v & then no custard creams! What ya doing Morrisons!! Not a tea or coffee drinker & dunking biscuits in hot chocolate or squash is just wrong, so I’m living vicariously through you on this one πŸ˜‚ I do love biscuits tho, so if you have any leftover you don’t want, send them my way, even the rich tea, I’ll take one for the team & eat them πŸ˜‹ Great video, I can think of lots of terrible video ideas, one of these days I’ll come up with something good πŸ˜‚

Gem

The Undisputed and Undefeated Champion In Ultimate Dunkability is the Nabisco Double Stuffed Oreo cookie. Milk, tea or coffee, young or old, it does not matter...

Steve Mikre

Great video! Hope you have a nice weekend!!

Aaron Conway

More, brilliant, hard hitting journalism on the topics that matter, you are entirely correct regarding rich tea biscuits and all that was missing (other than the custard creams) was ginger snaps! Keep up the excellent work, stay safe, I'm off to make a cup of tea
