I choose to believe Naked Alaska is what you get if you get a big chunk of ice cream and then put it in the oven for 45 minutes.

Iain Brown

Oh noooo!! 😂😂

Adventures and Naps

"Mum and I were talking about a Naked Alaska last night! It sounds hard!! lol" Best auto-correct error ever! 🤣🤣🤣

David Powell

So funny you mentioned that - Mum and I were talking about a Naked Alaska last night! It sounds hard!! lol

Adventures and Naps

Looks like we stole it from the Americans. You could make one anyway, they're lovely.

Iain Brown

You could always entertain yourself and try and make a baked Alaska. Meringue and ice cream, cooked. (Though, saying that, I don't know if it's actually British or if we stole it from someone else.)

Iain Brown

Wow, incredible!!

Adventures and Naps

As an American and chocolate lover, it is in a sweet class by itself. The British have traditional desserts and I agree it is a cultural thing. I do appreciate sweets other than chocolate though and the sponge (especially lemon) is really good. To be honest I also like sweets with raisins although in a fruitcake some brandy makes a big difference. Try Emily Dickinson's Black Cake if you ever have a chance, it's pretty much a Christmas thing . Back to chocolate - that should be an eating experience by ityself - not part of dinner. Maybe with a nice red wine!

William Seabrook

p.p.s. one of the best chocolate cakes I've had is a Guinness and chocolate cake, the recipe is here (with converted measurements) if you fancy giving it a try: https://figjamandlimecordial.com/tag/guinness-chocolate-cake/

David Powell

p.s. with you 100% about mince pies, Christmas pudding and the no raisin rule - I call it the no squashed flies rule! Avoid Eccles cakes are the same as minced pies, just a different kind of pastry. 🤮

David Powell

Got to be Eton Mess for me, because not only is it a lovely combination of flavours and textures, it is also so light that there's always room to fit it in, even after a big meal. A close second is a toffee apple crumble served with ice-cream or evaporated milk. Cinnamon and apple is a classic combo, and the toffee crumble only improves it. Delicious when hot, but also when cold when you have some left overs and the topping becomes really chewy.

David Powell

Rhubarb crumble, over cooked so that the edges burn and go chewy.

My son-in-law is an award winning head chef and i have been fed some superb stuff over the years. His speciality is game with fruit sauces, unbelievably good. However, the best thing i have ever eaten is his brownie recipe. It has a crisp outside and the softest gooiest inside, and a secret ingredient or two that he refuses to tell me what it is. I don't usually bother with desserts but will always have second helpings of the brownie. As everyone else has said, where is the crumble? Really surprised that wasn't there. If you are talking about tradition then surely apple crumble/pie should be there. How nice for you to have your partner there with you, after all that time and all that has happened, it must feel so nice to have that support and love. Bring on the savoury list.

Adam Clark

What...no crumble!!

Lee Fergusson

Alanna and her continued battle against outdoor noise. Don't worry, I also share your love of chocolate. I wouldn't think of scones as a dessert or a sweet though.

Brett Carruthers

Looking forward to the savoury video! Full English breakfast on Sunday morning 😁

Andy Mlynek

Who doesn’t love a crumble 😋

Gem

"food equivalent of watching paint dry. " 😂 I'll need to use that at some point, top notch phrase lol

Adventures and Naps

Chocolate chips should always be used instead of raisins, couldn't agree more!!

Adventures and Naps

The outrage in the comments at the lack of crumble is incredibly beautiful lol

Adventures and Naps

Thank you!!!

Adventures and Naps

Shocked at the lack of crumble!

Adventures and Naps

Oh cheesecake, forgot about those!! I remember I had a passionfruit cheesecake at some restaurant in Kent, it was heaven.

Adventures and Naps

Good to know about the Eccles cake, I'll steer clear of that one!

Adventures and Naps

Ohh, haven't had a proper peach cobbler in ages!

Adventures and Naps

Thank you!! I would have loved for an apple crumble to be in the God Tier!

Adventures and Naps

Cheers pal!!

Adventures and Naps

That sounds incredible!! And chocolate!!

Adventures and Naps

She didn't but the summer is still young

Adventures and Naps

Ooooh haven't made a Betty Crocker thing in awhile!

Adventures and Naps

Betty Crocker Devil's Food Cake. Sinfully Delicious...😋

Steve Mikre

Why would we come at you when you are correct? I actually pointed at my screen and told Alanna that not only was she right, but that her reasoning was correct too. You want the dairy / condiment ratio to be more cream with less jam for the perfect scone (to rhyme with stone).

Isleworth Times

Yes, that worked. I'm now hungry too! So glad that The Butler God is there with you and I hope that Mrs Naps did go and get you a pie.

Isleworth Times

I caught the diabetes a couple of years ago, so yeah, thanks for that 😄 If you want a crossover between chocolate and traditional British puddings, try a chocolate bread and butter pudding. Get some chocolate chip brioche, slice up and put in a dish. Cover with ready-made chocolate custard. Sprinkle with chocolate chips or broken up chocolate bars. Bake in the oven. Yum!

Matthew Sylvester

Hi Alanna. Interesting vid, in my eyes its a bit of a confused list. What is a cake, dessert. Scones I see as a pastry not something to compare against a knickerbocker glory. A lot of those I'd only eat if they were smothered in custard as they are quite dry. As you mentioned a very traditional list. Which begs the question as others have said, what happened to the fruit crumbles, pies, lemon meringue etc. Bread & butter pudding is quite easy to make and doesn't have to have raisins in for it to work. Bread, butter, cream, milk, egg, nutmeg, vanilla or other spices yum!

Ian

That was very interesting, seems the general British public disagree with me quite a lot! I would never have Victoria Sponge or Scones in God tier (too plain) but I would probably put Eccles cake (you wouldn't like them, basically a bigger Mince pie with Puff pastry) and Bread and Butter Pudding in the God tier. Also would move Xmas pudding up alot. I'm pretty much opposite to you on the whole raisin and spiced thing. Anyway this was really good and definitely should do Savoury version (which I know is your favoured side of this) as that would be a great vid. Hope all is going well and you're having a lovely time with the Butler. Thanks as always.

Ar558a

Scones are eaten with cream first then jam on top; this is the Cornish way. Every other combination is wrong. #ComeAtMe

Andy Arnold

Interesting list, surprised there wasn’t apple or rhubarb crumble on there. I would eat most of those, including the ones with raisins, but agree that key lime pie, lemon meringue or chocolate brownie would be better options. If I had to pick from the list, probably would be banoffee pie. Anyway, glad you are doing OK and that your partner was able to come over.

Shaun Garratt

Have to agree on the Key Lime pie, gorgeous also like Peach Cobbler which I had in Tennessee while on holiday in the U.S. As for the scone, father comes from Devon so its cream first for me. Great video once again, nice to see your doing ok.look after yourself.

Graham Lavers

That's me needing to watch Peter Kay again. But yes Cheeeesecaaaake! Also Alanna if you read this it's a great YouTube video to watch. If you Google cheesecake Pter Kay no doubt you'll find it.

Andy

A cake made of cheese??

Andy Mlynek

Hi, Alanna, that was brilliant. I really enjoyed it. I've never had deep fried Mars bar or Welsh cakes, but I do like Christmas pudding and mince pie, not keen on Eccles cake its a less tasteful version of a mince pie. I'm going to advertise you should try After Eight chocolate moose, its great. You always make entertaining videos and that one excelled. A challenge for you, how about home made lemon marangue pie, you could do that. I was going to suggest you made a bread (not bread and butter) pudding but I think there may be too many raisins. Looking forward to your next video soon.

Stephen Parker

The problem with the test is they favour nice and boring. No one will dislike a Victoria Sponge so it scores highly. But something like Christmas pudding some people really love it, but a lot of people hate it. No lemon tart, no custard tart, and no apple crumble, on the list

Simon

Loved the video. My god there's so many desserts you've said so I'll try to pick out some points lol. Knickerbocker Glory for me is a childhood memory. I used to annoy my parents as a kid because it was the biggest dessert on the menu. Think of it as an ice cream sundae but as a kid was three times the size of your hand lol. Hot cross buns are nice but should be in the crap tier. I agree with crumble needing to be included (it's a top teir!) but what about cheesecake! My three favourite desserts at Christmas are cheesecake, gateaux (I know it's technically French) and Christmas pudding (although it's eaten after alcohol so everything tastes great then lol!). Great video, loved it. Btw Scones for me are pronounced with the 'on' sound and are jam and cream first. That can be a whole other video but I just do that because spraying whipped cream on jam doesn't dirty the knife lol.

Andy

A good madeira cake is easily on a par with a hot crossed bun, much more flavourful than it looks. No apple crumble ?!?

Dr Philip J Naylor

I have a further ado! Don't tell anyone I said something good about the French but try brioche with vanilla! Yum

Andy Mlynek

Hiya Alanna, I agree that minced tarts and Christmas pudding should be in the dustbin tier! Surprised that rhubarb and apple crumble weren't on the list. Straight from the oven with vanilla ice cream on top! Bloody lovely! Good to see you looking so well and I'm happy you get to see your partner. Take good care of yourself and keep smiling ☺

Andy Mlynek

Also a properly made bread and butter pudding is a thing to behold, and it is even better when made with chocolate chips... Yes that's a thing.

Tom Hardie

I really love Sticky Toffee Pudding, or a nice fruit scone with proper clotted cream and quality strawberry jam 🤤🤤🤤

Tom Hardie

Don’t bother with Eccles Cake! Hate Xmas pud, mince pies, hot cross buns & Bakewell tart, all should be crap tier (in my opinion). Treacle tart and Bread & butter pudding should have been higher. Can’t believe there was no crumble on the list!!!

Gem

🇬🇧 This felt like a really elaborate trailer for your next cooking video. Loved it.

Chris

Glad you’re doing well and your partner is there to support you I’m kind of disappointed there’s no fruit crumbles on the list but I am also not a raisin fan so I wouldn’t mind them being swopped for chocolate chips wherever possible. I hope you enjoy your partner’s visit thanks for finding the time to make a video.

Sarah Hogg

Geee I was recently diagnosed with diabetes, you're really not helping. 😅 My personal favourites are Bakewell Tart (particularly cherry bakewell with icing sugar on) & Custard and Ginger Sponge & Custard. Xmas pudding? Worst food invention on the god damn planet. Treacle Tart is basically sugar. Just sugar. You can only get treacle/golden syrup in North America in speciality stores, I don't think you have anything similar. But you will be familiar with it's darker brother Black Treacle (Molasses). Banoffee Pie is awesome. It's better than mid tier. Hot Cross buns are the food equivalent of watching paint dry. God Tier? Scones and Victoria Sponge? Really? There's thing so much better than those. Victoria sponge is just basic and uninspired. Ever tried a Cornish Tin Miner's Pasty? 2/3 Cornish Pasty 1/3 Apple pie. Surprisingly nice.
