My beautiful boy!
Added 2020-05-22 18:01:00 +0000 UTCAfter we had to put our first dog Sydney to sleep when I was 14, everyone in the family was pretty devastated. I was certain that we would likely never get another dog again... until a year later my Dad saw Jack and within a few days, he was at our house.
Thankfully I had Jack the same time I had a camera, so I took tons of silly photos of him (and will post loads more if you stick around!)
We called him Jack, Jacky, Jack Black, Wolfman Jack or The Gentle Giant. He was big and scary looking, but the kindest, biggest baby ever made. Sadly he had to be put to sleep when he was pretty young due to cancer, but we had so many funny stories in the time we were together.
Dogs are so special!!

2020-07-30 15:06:46 +0000 UTCI know it's an old post but with the sad news of your dad I thought of this in relation to your post. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed a re made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

2020-05-23 11:47:18 +0000 UTCGirl, you made me cry. Seeing pictures of your beautiful dog, reminded me of my last dog, Katie, (Kate Bush), red hair, just like the english singer KB. A Springer Spaniel. She die 5 years ago, I was up all night and she die in my arms at 4:20am and I buried her at 6:30am at the top of the garden.She had a good life and gave me so much over the 18 years of her long life. I find it hard to replace her so instead, I sponsor two dogs at the Dog Trust, now a lazy dog owner, someone else walks my dogs for me. I live in beautiful Wales, but seeing your pictures of Canada, I feel jealous, it's so lush over there. Take care and keep safe.

As a cat person I'd never really considered the bond between a canine and their human before, particularly when the bond was formed as youungsters. I find myself... not quite jealous but... wistful... that's the word... wistful about how that bond might have felt. To the left, never had to walk a dog in the rain and am comfortable with my mildly sociopathic tendencies.
