I don't think you're the "too woke friend". I do think that we need to give some grace here, I'm sure many of us in fact all of us have been guilty of the "But it's me" thought in our head. And we also need to take into account that we are hearing this story second hand so we don't know if he ever actually apologized or if that was left out. I'm not trying to excuse anything I'm just trying to give perspective of. I'm sure we've all been in a situation where we thought we were doing something fun and innocuous and it made someone else uncomfortable.

That’s not okay at all. Like it freaked out Jordan this much, god that’s really tone deaf to do to a woman if she’s your friend let alone to find out it’s a stranger. You can apologize to your friend and laugh it off. He just made some random woman’s day way more existentially terrifying because he thought it was funny. Like babe u couldn’t waterboard that out of me

To be fair the first time I failed to recognise him it'd been 12 years since I saw him last. On the other hand, he does look like a shorter version of my dad, so it should be quite obvious. Not to me though. Was very awkward both times.
