Chapter 59

They displayed a surprisingly large amount of hubris in spite of being the weakest race he'd seen in his travels. They weren't even the most physically superior species in their own world.

And they treated the Kryptonian with borderline hostility in spite of how much he aided them. If what Lobo had said was true, they'd gone as far as to create a clone of him just so they could have something to kill him with. A part of him respected the Kryptonian for not killing them after that.

Needless to say, he didn't have a high opinion of Earth. If they treated their own protector that way, he didn't want to know how they'd treat someone who wasn't even raised on Earth and had no reason whatsoever to fight for them. At best, she'd receive the same treatment as the male until she messed up by accident.

He knew he didn't have any obligation to help her. He'd saved her life, that should be enough for him to take her to earth, find the male, reunite them and be on his way without feeling any guilt.

After he'd been paid for rescuing the Tamaranean, he'd bought himself a new ship, upgraded it with the equipment of his dreams and most of the remaining money had gone to keeping the girl alive. She was an investment to him now. And he'd be damned if he spent millions on saving someone only for them to end up killed or enslaved by lesser beings.

"But your world's end doesn't have to be the end for you." Naruto started, causing Kara to look at him again. "I won't lie and say I understand what you're going through but I can't just stand by while you fall deeper into grief."

"Whoever saved you did so because they believed you were worth saving. They believed that your survival would be worth their own life. If you're not going to live because you want to, live because they want you to."

"There's a whole universe before you. Krypton will always be a part of you, yes. But at the same time, there's a new chapter opened in your life. One bigger than Krypton."

"And that's an opportunity. An opportunity to live the life whoever saved you wanted you to live. To be something they know they couldn't be if they were the ones to live in your place. To be something more than just the last Kryptonian. Something better."

Kara listened to him speak with wide eyes, committing his words to memory. Her mother's face flashed in the edge of her vision. She knew that she could have chosen to save herself rather than her but chose not to.

"And I'm going to help you. I won't lie, Kara. I'm not a good person. I'm not going to lie about making you a better person than I am. You might end up just like me. Or worse. Or better, depending on you. Eitherway, you won't be the same."

So what if he wasn't a saint? He saved her and went through the trouble of nursing her to health. That was enough for Kara. She didn't have much of a choice anyways. She didn't know anyone else and she doubted everyone would be as good as Naruto was.

"If you want to, I can drop you off on a safe planet with some money. Or we can go around. Together."

Together. With her savior. That sounded nice.

She wanted to shout yes but could only watch Naruto as he continued to speak.

"If you want to come along with me, just nod." Naruto finished and watched her closely. He was pleasantly surprised to get a small nod and rewarded the Kryptonian with a bright smile.

And thus began the adventures of the first Kryptonian bounty hunter.

Ten years later

"See that Korugarian? The one with the patterned hair?"

"Yes, Naruto I can see him clearly."

"That's our person. Take the shot."

"Alright..wait, there's someone else with him. That's a child."

"Doesn't matter, just don't kill the kid. Problem solved."

"But..what if he's the father?"

"I'm very confused. What happened to the girl who said I-want-to-beat-and-kill-people-for-money?"

"She realised beating and killing people for money has consequences on unrelated people."

Naruto dropped his goggles annoyedly and turned to lay on his back in the mud to searchthrough the many pouches on his jacket, he brought out a soiled piece of paper containing a picture and writings. He hated when Kara suddenly developed cold feet when it was time to kill a bounty because of some little interruption like family or innocent people.

Checking to see if he got the right one, he shook it straight and showed it to Kara.

"See this? This is Staal Jinsheh. A member of the group of raiders who robbed the Arjuris-Thagnar vessel and killed Consular Zakzaky. He's got a 230000 bounty on his head."
