Chapter 0807: VS Kyogre! Battle Legends—Blastoise!(Three-in-One)

Above the solitary island, dark clouds amassed, thunder rumbling across the sky.

Latias raced over the waters, carrying a black-haired young man and parting the waves with soaring jets of water.

A girl with a blonde ponytail was clutched around the waist by a Butterfree, soaring through the storm.

Butterfree beat its wings furiously, actually keeping pace with Latias—thanks to Yellow’s “Aura of Viridian.”

In special editions, a level 20 Butterfree could, with the help of the “Aura of Viridian,” suddenly skyrocket to level 80. Because of this, Yellow was often nicknamed “the one with cheat codes.”

Beneath the churning surface, a massive black shadow circled, stirring up a tremendous whirlpool. Thunder split the sky, turning day into night, and the waters glowed stark and bright.

Rain poured down as Lana gripped her fishing rod, raising her eyes in surprise.

“Teacher Yellow? Natsume-sensei!?”

Lana stood alone on the tiny island, now almost entirely submerged, with four stone pillars behind her forming a crescent-shaped cove.

Before her, the sea churned in a wild whirlpool. Through towering waves, she glimpsed the blue-and-white-striped beast.

“Lana, don’t move! I’m coming!” Natsume commanded.

Latias swooped close to the island; Natsume leapt down and recalled Latias to its Poké Ball.

Inside the ball, Latias puffed out its cheeks: “Latias~~~”

Another day with no spotlight for me!

Yellow landed light as a feather, turning toward the enormous whirlpool. Her windswept blonde ponytail fluttered as she gasped,

“It really IS Kyogre!”

The legendary Sea God: master of storms, king of the ocean depths!

BOOM!

Kyogre flipped and soared skyward, crashing the sea into a mighty crater as a pillar of water exploded upward. A wave surged toward Lana, who squeezed her eyes shut.

“Sylveon, Light Screen!”

The water never struck. Lana reopened her eyes.

Natsume and Sylveon stood in front of her, hand outstretched. A sparkling, translucent pink Light Screen shielded them—thudding as it blocked the crashing wave!

“Kyogre looks strange,” Natsume frowned. “Is it poisoned?”

Lana quickly described how she had commanded Gengar to defend her, and how Kyogre ended up poisoned.

“Kyogre’s furious now… But I won’t give up. I’m going to get it to eat the Pecha Berry!”

A flicker of self-blame surfaced in Lana’s eyes, but her conviction blazed even stronger.

She had started this; she needed to see it through.

Natsume paused in admiration. Lana really was the most outstanding student from the animated class—successfully commanding Gengar—even without the proper Trainer level.

Far from angry, Natsume felt proud. It meant Lana had truly paid attention in battle courses.

“I’ll help you, Lana.”

The winds howled and the surf roared. Natsume placed his hand on Lana’s blue hair and, under her steady gaze, looked toward the vortex. His dark eyes gleamed:

“First, let’s calm Kyogre down!”

To get Kyogre to take the healing bait, Lana would need to keep finding the right fishing spot, luring Kyogre to bite.

But the rampaging Kyogre would keep summoning waves and tsunamis—even attacking Lana itself!

This slight blue-haired girl harbored enough courage to face a legendary Pokémon and shoulder the consequences. Natsume wanted to help her.

To help her… reel in Kyogre!

“Lana, this island is almost flooded. We need to find a new fishing spot!”

Rain poured down. Yellow shouted, “Head for the crescent-shaped reef—that’s a natural harbor!”

“But Kyogre is getting more and more agitated!”

Lana bit her lip, knuckles white as she clutched the rod.

“We need to calm it down first!”

Yellow raised her hand, attempting to sooth Kyogre with the Aura of Viridian. But she was too far; it had no effect.

And the furious Kyogre seemed to have forgotten its status as Messenger of Transcendence—even The Power of One couldn’t reach it.

BOOM!!

The rain clouds spiraled, a lightning bolt pierced through, illuminating the monstrous beast at the center. Kyogre’s eyes glowed fiercely, its face twisted with toxin-induced rage.

“I’ll calm it down,” Natsume muttered.

He clenched a Dive Ball, its metallic luster flashing. In a firm voice:

“If special abilities aren’t enough, we’ll do it by force!”

Half a year ago, Natsume’s mega Blastoise, with his team’s help, traded Hydro Cannons with Primal Kyogre.

But things were different now.

Kyogre had lost its “Primal Form,” could no longer nullify Water-type moves, and was now poisoned.

Blastoise not only had its strength improved, but had mastered “Origin Pulse”!

A friend from afar calls for a beating—Hydro Pump it into next week!!

“I choose you—!”

Through the storm, Natsume threw the Dive Ball. The roaring surf swallowed the beam of red, and when the water fell back, a glistening shell appeared.

“Blastoise!!”

Blastoise stood tall against the crashing waves, its cannons glinting metallically, sunglasses reflecting the swirling Kyogre.

“Blastoiseヾ(■_■)” Blastoise’s face was grim.

No more Victini boost. No injected Aura of Ripple from Natsume

Blastoise stood, gazing silently at Kyogre—much the same as in their Hoenn showdown half a year ago.

Only this time, Kyogre flinched—a memory of a not-so-pleasant battle surfacing.

Kyogre’s yellow, bulbous eyes scanned the water, spotting the float. The Pecha Berry was waiting there—to cure its poison.

Its gaze snapped back to Blastoise. Eyes bloodshot, the Sea God’s mind spiraled into wild confusion.

I don’t need healing—I’ll crush that Blastoise instead!

BOOM!!

Kyogre whipped its fins, breaking through the waves, launching out of the water. The sky shrieked with wind and lightning, illuminating its pallid belly—a sight both awe-inspiring and terrifying.

“Lana, hurry!”

“Yes!”

Yellow and Lana raced to the crescent reef, ready to cast their lines.

Natsume and Blastoise stayed behind, staring up at the beast.

The markings on Kyogre’s skin glowed purple; its eyelids drooped ominously; it hovered above the sea, gathering a roaring Hydro Pump in its maw!

BOOM—the Hydro Pump ripped through the night sky, streaking down at Blastoise below.

Blastoise’s gaze sharpened, water swirling around its frame.

This is our darkest hour—our finest hour!

“Blastoise! Hydro Pump!”

Natsume called for the same move. Blastoise’s cannon boomed—two jets merging, slamming straight into Kyogre’s Hydro Pump!

BOOM!!

Hydro Pump clashed with Hydro Pump—waves burst apart! Kyogre poured on the power, startled to see the beam begin to drift, its own move faltering until both streams reached a deadlock.

Kyogre howled, ignoring the poison and maximizing its Hydro Pump, trying to sweep Blastoise—and the beach—away in a torrent!

BOOM!!

Spray battered Sylveon’s Light Screen.

Kyogre was the Sea God, after all. Even poisoned, even half delirious, its Hydro Pump was terrifyingly strong.

But even within the raging waves, Blastoise’s aura grew—rather than weakening, it only intensified!

THUD!!

Water scattered, and Blastoise appeared from the receding Hydro Pump, glancing back at its own shell.

Marks were scored deep into the turtle shell—a wound akin to Shell Smash!

[Shell Smash: Crack your shell, lowering Defense and Special Defense, but greatly boosting Attack, Special Attack, and Speed!!]

Blastoise’s aura poured out in waves, stirring Natsume’s jacket.

Kyogre hovered overhead, staring down at a Blastoise that “felt off” with wide yellow eyes.

What happened?

That last exchange should have been a mere probing move.

So why does Blastoise look like it just powered through a critical breakthrough!?

Natsume stared at Blastoise’s back, puzzled.

Was that… Shell Smash?

Scratching the shell counts as Shell Smash for Blastoise?! Well, with your stubborn personality, it makes perfect sense…when did you reach the level of a “Battle Legend”…?

Natsume gazed up at the sky.

When did Blastoise ascend to Battle Legend status?

He’d seen Battle Legends before—Gengar, Sylveon—so he recognized the aura instantly.

Leon’s Battle Legend Charizard? Comparable, at least, to a base-form Eternatus.

And now, Blastoise was unmistakably a Battle Legend, even suppressing the now-poisoned Kyogre with its aura.

“Blastoise.” Blastoise’s eyes were calm.

As a Pokémon with the Aura Talent, it made sense I’d train my aura by mastering Origin Pulse.

With the boost from Shell Smash, advancing to Battle Legend is perfectly reasonable!

Kyogre blasted a jet of water into the sky, shaking its head.

Totally unreasonable!

Kyogre’s Water Spout transformed into towering waves, raining down on all sides, shaking the entire island.

Natsume glanced at Yellow and Lana—they were nearly at the crescent reef, far from the Water Spout’s range.

“Sylveon, keep me covered with Light Screen.”

Natsume flashed his fingerless gloves—grooved with a Key Stone that flared with rainbow light, bathing the island in color.

Yellow and Lana turned back, eyes wide with awe.

“Blastoise—”

A rainbow beam surged between Blastoise and Natsume, blue aura waves scattering the mist, reflecting in Kyogre’s anxious gaze.

“Mega Evolution!!”

Blastoise’s eyes glowed red; horns and a small turret grew from its head and knuckles. Its two cannons merged into a single massive barrel, becoming a true walking tank!

Mega Blastoise. Ability: Mega Launcher!

Mega Launcher powers up all Aura-type moves—Origin Pulse becomes even mightier!

“Let’s do it, Blastoise—” Natsume and Blastoise’s gazes hardened.

VS Kyogre.

This was the moment—a Battle Legend’s moment!

Kyogre’s gaze was icy as it floated beneath the sky, gathering indigo energy between its jaws. The pressure deepened, a force like the abyssal currents at the bottom of the Primordial Sea—a flood ready to destroy the world. The light built and built, and then Kyogre opened wide and fired a beam like judgment day.

Natsume roared,

“Origin Pulse!!”

“Blastoise!”

Mega Blastoise’s scarlet eyes narrowed. Its arms and mighty cannon glowed blue as energy built. Natsume’s own Aura of Ripple flowed into Blastoise, flaring brilliantly. Kyogre’s Origin Pulse fell like divine punishment from above—Blastoise tightened its stare, and all three cannons fired at once!

BOOM!

Origin Pulse slammed against Origin Pulse. Indigo light swallowed the island.

“Guys, look!”

From the deserted reef, Ash ran out of the cavern and pointed at the island.

“That’s Kyogre—its Origin Pulse!!”

“And the Trainer fighting it…” Kiawe gulped.

The students shouted as one: “Natsume-sensei!?”

Light continued to cross the sky. The twin Origin Pulses clashed in the heavens.

Blastoise looked up, shell cracking with the strain, feet gouging ruts in the rock.

Kyogre thrashed, the blue-and-white stripes shifting to sickly purple—poison spreading!

Kyogre staggered.

The evenly-matched Origin Pulse started to tip—then buckled completely as Kyogre’s gaze froze with disbelief.

BOOM!!

Indigo light filled the sky—a fusion-reactor ball of energy engulfed Kyogre!

Blastoise spun, slipped on its sunglasses, and gave Natsume a little nod.

“Blastoise…ヾ(■_■)”

Mission complete.

Behind Blastoise, the smoking Kyogre crashed from the sky into the sea, sending waves washing around Blastoise’s feet on the beach.

Natsume checked on Blastoise and gazed at the fading Kyogre.

“Blastoise…” Natsume murmured.

Not so long ago, legendary Pokémon felt utterly out of reach.

And now, with strength gained, Blastoise had overcome Kyogre head-on…

For this moment, a Pokémon senryū:

Mega Blastoise—Shell Smash with Origin Pulse, crushed Kyogre to dust!

Lana and Yellow stood on the crescent reef, dazed.

After a pause, Yellow found her voice. “Um, Lana…now’s the best chance to reel in Kyogre!”

Yellow had expected Natsume would use Meloetta’s song to calm the rampaging Kyogre.

Who could’ve guessed he’d use brute strength!

Lana nodded, still blank from shock, then her resolve blazed again. She raised the rod and cast it out hard.

The bait was a blend of Pecha Berry and Sitrus Berry—exactly what Kyogre needed now.

Kyogre’s gaze steadied. Lying in the cold sea, it was lost for a moment, old memories resurfacing.

That Blastoise… I know it…

Across the water, Kyogre looked at the black-haired young man with a strange expression.

How foolish… I thought there was no Hoopa or Rayquaza in Alola—never guessed the Messenger of Transcendence would show up here!

Kyogre, almost dizzy from the poison, drifted to the crescent cove made of four pillars, grabbed the bait, and chewed.

Huh? Pretty tasty…

Another bite—wait, that’s a hook!

“Now’s your chance, Lana!” Yellow cheered.

“Alright!” Lana called out, her eyes sparkling. “Kyogre, regain your strength!”

Splash!!

The blue-haired girl reeled in the rod—Kyogre leapt from the water, caught the line, casting its shadow over Lana.

Natsume looked up at the scene, amazed.

There it was—the legendary “big-headed fish” moment!

A revitalized Kyogre vaulted over Crescent Bay and crashed into the waters with a boom.

Waves drenched Lana and Yellow.

The two girls stared at each other in disbelief. Yellow smiled softly; Lana’s smile blossomed, and then she bent over laughing with happiness.

Natsume approached the crescent bay as Kyogre floated on the water, now restored and eyeing the Messenger of Transcendence.

“Why are you so much smaller now?” Natsume just had to ask. Kyogre’s size had shrunk considerably.

‘The world’s Ancient Power is depleted…’ Kyogre looked at Natsume in hesitation. ‘And…this isn’t my peak condition.’

“I understand.”

Natsume smiled, stroking Kyogre’s head.

Can’t fly… big-headed fish… add “Rayquaza defeated by a Caterpie web” and the Hoenn trio’s reputation is really on the line.

“Could you carry us back to the deserted reef?”

Kyogre hesitated again, glanced at Lana, then back at Natsume, and gave a big nod.

The students had been waiting anxiously on the deserted reef.

In the distance they could see a giant shadow—Lillie, Mallow, Ash, Kiawe, and Sophocles were speechless.

“…Is that—?”

“The Sea God—Kyogre!?”

“And it’s carrying Natsume-sensei and the others?!”

“Beep… System Overload, Rotom!”

Natsume, Yellow, and Lana sat on Kyogre’s back as it swam them back from the solitary island.

After dropping them off, Kyogre prepared to leave. Natsume tossed it a few golden blocks as thanks.

Kyogre raised an eyebrow, snorted.

I am the Sea God. I don’t eat handouts…

Natsume just tossed the golden blocks straight into Kyogre’s mouth.

Kyogre chewed: (⊙x⊙;)

Pretty tasty!

……

Kyogre’s fin faded into the sea beyond the horizon.

The students swarmed Lana, all talking at once.

“What actually happened, Lana?”

Lana answered seriously, “Natsume’s Blastoise totally defeated Kyogre!”

“What!?” The students were stunned.

“R-really?” Lillie asked timidly.

Yellow smiled quietly in the background. Natsume folded his arms, peaceful in meditation.

“That was a joke~” Lana closed her eyes halfway, sticking out her tongue.

The students sighed in relief—then Lana added,

“Actually, I reeled in Kyogre, too!”

“WHAT?!”

“Lana, which part is the truth?”

Lana turned away and waved a finger, grinning playfully.

“That’s a secret~!”

……

Here’s what can be publicly confirmed for now: Natsume-sensei’s team includes three Battle Legends.

Blastoise also showed off its Shell Smash move… A Shell Smashed Blastoise that overpowered even Kyogre.

Meanwhile, Sylveon’s Reflect and Light Screen were both enhanced by the island aura, able to block giant waves, Earthquakes, and more.

In the chat group, the long-absent champion of the land finally logged on.

Ash: “At today’s Fishing Class, Natsume-sensei totally crushed Kyogre!”

Lance: “?”

Iris: “?”

Misty: “?”

“It’s for real.”

Ash insisted: “Blastoise went head to head with Kyogre, both using Origin Pulse—I saw it with my own eyes!”

Blue Oak: “……”

I’m busy getting ready for Saturday’s Exhibition match.

And Natsume-sensei is still attending classes—yet took time out to smash Kyogre!?

A sudden thought struck Blue Oak; he felt like he’d discovered the secret to Natsume-sensei’s “Breeding” technique.

His own “Breeding” method was to take on fierce opponents like Red, and wild Pokémon on places like Mt. Silver.

Steven Stone’s “Breeding” involved mining while training his team against Pokémon found in cavern environments.

But Natsume-sensei’s Breeding method was unique—completely impossible to imitate.

“Training Pokémon by using legendary Pokémon as sparring partners?”

Blue Oak crossed his arms, a hint of curiosity on his otherwise stern face.

“You’re something else, Natsume-sensei…”
