Patreon 180 - No Fee Change

Simple, short and sweet post today - Patreon have listened the the feedback and are not changing the fee system. Sooooo in summary, no changes to fee cost and you can disregard the other patreon post on those coming changes!

Patreon Changes, You and Me

Hey everyone, 

As some of you may have heard, Patreon is making some changes to how Patrons are charged on their platform. The new change is that Patrons NOT Creators will be charged processing fees at a rate of 2.9%+$0.35. Previously, this had varied and was charged to Creators. This meant support varied by 2-10% less (in additional to the 5% Patreon fee) than the amount pledged. Unfortunately, this was poorly communicated. Currently it will apply for each Creator you support despite most Creator’s payments being transferred to Patreon as a single lump sum.  In a recent update to their previous post, Patreon had clarified this is because they are moving to a rolling sub model (like nearly every other subscription service such as Netflix, Twitch Subs or harbour fees) where you pay when you sign up, and then a month later - rather than the current system which is at the beginning of the calendar month regardless of when you supported someone.

This means that rewards can be rolled out to supporters immediately rather than having to wait until the beginning of every month to see if there are any issues with payments.

Since the additional fee they are leveraging up front on Patreons does include a flat $0.35, it will heavily hit $1 Patrons who will be paying $1.38 (plus VAT). The way our Patreon community support is structured means that it will have a relatively small impact and the ability to roll out rewards immediately once they bring out Charge Up Front (which this is a step towards) next year should be beneficial for everyone.

Please bear in mind that this does offset the current 2-10% (generally 5-6% extra) processing fees and means that your support will go further.  Of course, this does represent a big jump for contributors at lower tiers and it goes almost without saying that you should always do whatever you feel you need to for your own personal financial situation! We're really sorry if this has caused any worry or confusion, but it does look like the changes aren't quite as bad as initially made out to be. However, Patreon certainly could have explained the situation far better.

Discord!

New patreon reward time!

After asking what I could add to Patreon to give you more for your support several people suggested a fan discord server. So after trialling it for the last week or so it's now an additional reward to the 'knight' tier and above.

In the next few months I'm going to be updating the Patreon and changing a few things, please note the 'squire' tier will eventually be phased out. If anyone can think of any other rewards to add please let me know!

Flags for the Empire, Again! - Merch

So after crazy demand on the first limited run of flags I decided to get a whole load made for us - these have been available for a little while and have been mentioned on twitch but I just realised I never officially announced that we had more in stock elsewhere, so... They cost £30 including postage to anywhere in the world (sorry to all my Martian viewers), made of real flag material and are rated for several months of use at the top of an all-weather flagpole.

Flags for the Empire - Merch

OK so after being persauded I went ahead and got a limited number of Elysian Empire flag made as merchandise. These are actual flags (1m by .7m, although I measure that as .6) designed to last 3-4 months in wet and windy conditions on top of a flagpole to show your support for the Empire. 

After mention these on twitter I've had loads of people wanting one but I only got a limited run made. Sadface. As such if you want one you'll need to call dibs on one of the three reserved for Patreons and if you miss out on those then in half an hour I'll be allowing dibs on the last 4 on Twitter. 

Sorry its a bit of a silly system. 

They cost £30 for this run and ship internationally. Payment by PayPal. Size and expect usage lifespan are above. I imagine if you don't have a flagpole they'd probably last a damn sight longer. These are actual real flags made of real flag material.

1 Year Patre-versay

After 1 year on Patreon it's now a core part of my job - your support has actually allowed me to not only continue doing YouTube but also grow, start new projects like Role4It and even stream more often (since that was frequently requested every time I asked you what you'd like from the channel). Without the support of you none of this would be possible. Thank you so SO much.

Things you may have missed in the last two months (and why I've been so busy and not as active on here as I should have been):

- XCOM Tuesday streams last weeks and the next two (we'll see how popular it is)

Update!

Hey everyone! Been a little quiet on here recently so want to just keep you all updated and THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE SUPPORT! So:

1) Next Q&A is coming but since I didn't get a huge amount of questions I'm going to roll it in with a channel update video about...

2) New internet! Some of you may know but I am currently getting a new expensive fancy internet line put in and that should allow me greater ease of making and delivering content and hopefully better and more streaming (yay)!

3) Needs You series, GSB2 which started a few days ago is one, as is a new one today trying out Guild of Dungeoneering. I will probably kill you all fairly quickly. Sorry.

4) I have no idea what 4 is other than thank you so much for all your support - you are the ones that make the channel possible especially at a time of falling ad revenue you peeps are the reason I can keep making you all the awesome contents! Hopefully now I have to worry less about scheduling 10hrs+ of uploading per day I can focus more on delivering more awesome.

Hey guys, gals and everyone else! Just want to say thank you again so much for helping support the channel and to apologise for the slightly lowered content recently. Had a few days off to try and get some R&R and think up new WWK plots and then I ended up a bit ill for a few days. Getting back into it now and just recorded some more Big Pharma and should hopefully get a KSP to you all soon! So sorry for that - and thanks for all the support!

Hello my lovely people! Thank you so much for your support again - few bits of news etc.

1. I love you all.

2. I might be getting better internet! This is totally made possible by the Patreon so thank you all! Also means I can get videos up faster, spend less time uploading, do better quality streaming, more streaming etc. Not finalised yet but I am pretty hopeful.

3. I've altered the rules slightly regarding Needs You names. Basically added that crazy amounts of punctuation or non-latin characters mean that I can edit your name for games. In addition added a mention that for games with naming themes I might change names slightly to fit.

4. You may have seen Big Pharma is a Needs You series - next level I'll be dropping the title but it'll continue to be a Needs You series.

5. KSP Career is becoming Needs You - with Kerbals! Instead of doing missions (which felt a little weird) I will be editing the Kerbal names for all Kerbals barring badasses (i.e. Jeb and Val). Bare in mind that this is a very limited number - we might have around 10 Kerbals being renamed yet 100 eligible names (incidentally if you haven't seen your name in a while this is why). Such small numbers means it's unlikely to be a draw for anyone but it's a way I can say thank you for all the support you guys have given me! Since all Kerbals have the last name 'Kerman' I'll be editing given names in some cases so that they can pass for first names. No gender bias.

Thank for all the support guys! As promised here is the latest Q&A with all the questions collated in the last couple of months. :D

Sorry there hasn't been a Q&A recently despiting getting a couple of questions. Reason is: I only got a couple of questions - not really enough to fill a Q&A (I guess people were busy enjoying Easter). Next one won't be for at least a week with the shear ridiculous number of games coming out at. I have so many series!!!

Just a heads up I've updated the main page a little. Main things changed include: Switching the Q&A to 'whenever' since sometimes I have other things to do video of when it gets busy (hello KSP 1.0). Goals paragraph was brought up to date. Just a heads up. :) Also, KSP 1.0 comes out soon... things are getting "busy"!

So... yeah... 100k subs happened. I still don't know if I fully believe it. That's like... crazy amounts of people - truly mind-boggling. My mind is truly boggled. Thank you all so much for the support! I'm so glad that when I made the decision in Oct to do Patreon for the channel it turned out well and allowed me to get to a point where I can say that I have more subscribers than there are people living in 45 of the worlds countries. /My subscriber base is larger than 45 countries... holy crap.../ Ok, I've blown my mind again. Guess I'll just safely end without risking any more brain pyrotechnics and thank you all. Thank you. So much. So very very much.

Just wanted to say, now that the patreon thingy is a month old - thank you. The support is beyond what I imagined and great. So kind of you guys to help out! I now have a pair of socks without holes in! ;) As you may have seen on the channel things are changing over to some more edited content as I mentioned in my reasons for Patreon. Civ:BE Space India is trialing some edited strategy formating (not sure about that for most games though since strategies are a cumulation of planning), a KSP video (which I tried a new format with and didn't like that much) tested the waters of KSP, and some things have got a facelift. Hope you all like the changing things and thank you again for the crazy support! <3
