At the age of 24, Chioma thought she had it all. Family wealth had bought her an exceptional education, and she pursued her love of fashion to commence her own clothing line even while still studying for a business degree. Her collections soon gained attention thanks to her influencer hustle and it looked like she was headed for the top.
But it wasn’t to last. Keeping all the parts of her life moving together was causing undue strain and stress, culminating in a high profile no-show at Paris fashion week. Humiliated, Chioma retreated into herself as her executives fought for control of the company.
A year later, rumours were rife. Was the business, struggling without her creative direction,up for sale? Had Chioma joined a religious order to escape the pressures of modern life? Had she split with her DJ boyfriend and eloped with a Balinese snake trainer?
The truth shocked the industry even more. Her partner, Jonathan, had confessed to her his desire to be a Companion in the growing Adapt movement. At first Chioma was repulsed, but the idea began to sink in. To continue as she was would only lead to a destructive cycle of over-work until she completely burned out.
She had already achieved more than enough, and it was time to centre herself on her own wellbeing. To radically Adapt would be to force a change in her pace of life, and yet with a devoted lover she could still command influence as his cherished, limbless... JEWEL.
