Final post of 2020!

Hey everyone, first of all, sorry for the spam today, there were a lot of posts to be included!

Ok, now on the real thing. I'd like to thank you all for the ongoing support, specially this year which was definitely a unique one. I imagine that many of you had financial difficulties, so the fact that you kept your support going meant a lot to me, and I hope you guys liked the content this year and that it was worth your interest!

It's funny how long this year took. Not sure about you guys, but at the same time that I think "damn, we are at the end of the year", it felt like an eternity.

We had a lot of amazing art this year, starting with Korrasami, which is my favourite Voyeur to this day. While we didn't have a lot of Iris pin-ups, we had 3 series, one being her very 1st voyeur!

And also got a new OC: Maya! With her curvy figure, I can tell that she already has the interest of many here =D
What to expect for 2021?

More Maya and Iris drawings! Since now we have two of them to explore, we'll need to draw them both more often. Because while their drawings have a certain "sequence" and there are small hints here and there that they are sequential, there's no actual story going on, they are just scenes that happen to take place one after the other.

But I'd love to expand their story in 2021. Not anything with dialogues but I'd love for their images to be a monthly thing for people to look foward to. What is Iris and/or Maya doing this month? And not just random pin-ups/series here and there every few months.

But currently, the biggest problem with those images is the background. They eat up a lot of production time. For example, on Maya new image with the cookies, the background was something like 50-60% of the production time. Because it's a kitchen, there's a LOT of stuff in a kitchen. Now imagine if I make a scene that has a living room behind the characters, there are couches, tables, stuff on top of the tables, wall, decoration on the wall, etc etc etc etc. Those things are not exactly super interesting to see, but they take a LOT of production time.

And when you consider that most of their drawings take place in their homes, there's a lot of re-drawing the same enviroment multiple times, and let's face it, that's really not the spotlight of the image. So in order to be able to focus on a "scene" between Iris and Maya (yes, they'll meet soon enough =p ), the background production needs to be more efficient.

So, starting next month I'll work my way around Blender and start modeling Iris and Maya's houses. Nothing super complex, but enough that it can speed up the drawings. If I just need to do a few touch-ups in the background, the foreground can get a lot more interesting and dynamic.

I actually planned to do that a few months ago but had to put that project on hold.

But as a temporary workaround I did I actually build Iris house on The Sims to help me navigate the ideas and have a place that makes sense lol. Here's a small chart on  where each images happens. Obviously the ingame house is not the exact same and the fact that she got a bathtub over the years, but it's enough to get the idea. =D

*you can right click the image and open on a new tab to have a bigger version!

I also included a few extra screenshots on the attachments so you guys can see that she actually does have a house that makes sense lol. And I plan to make one for Maya as well.

Also, keep in mind this is the kind of thing that I plan to do for Iris and Maya exclusively, because it's a scenario that would be used multiple times. For our regular fanart pin-ups there's really no point in making a whole 3d background to use only once, so it's better to just paint it like I normally do.

Anyway, just wanted to share a bit of extra information I have in mind for our lovely OCs. The voyeur and fanart pin-ups will remain the same structure as usual, so no changes there. I just want to be able to explore our OCs a bit more in the coming years =D

All in all, hope you guys have a great end of the year, and look foward to a better 2021, because we all deserve it!

It's definitely something I like to do. The thing is, they can be time consuming! Which is ok for unique images, but when you re-draw the same background over and over again, there's not a lot of "new things" to look at it. For example, Iris bedroom was already featured in 6 images, which is more than enough for people to know how it looks lol. And also, it makes scenes with 2 characters (Iris and Maya) more "doable" in a reasonable timeframe.

Thank you! I've seen several artists doing similar things for the "less relevant" parts of the image. While I prefer to paint most of the backgrounds, I think it's important to balance out the amount of time save that's possible with something like that for their images.

Lee

Thank you! It's something that helped me a lot to make her house "makes sense" in terms of telling small scenes with the images.

Lee

there's sure a lot of possible ideas =D

Lee

Oh don't worry, I'll definitely yell for help if needed, lol !

Lee

Thank you! I'm looking foward to explore the future ideas of interactions between. I have a lot of things in mind =D

Lee

Thank you! I'm really glad you liked them and they helped out a bit! Making them definitely took my mind out of things a bit as well!

Happy New Year! Interesting post. Yes your backgrounds are truly something unique. You don't find many artists that put so much details into backgrounds. I must say that I really enjoy them and like how you set up the scenes. Curious about the Blender work.

Arch

I love the level of effort you've put into making Iris and Maya's world consistent. The peek into where the glimpses we've gotten so far have been is pretty cool! Good luck with the modeling (I think Ken Akamatsu ended up doing something similar with one of his series)

πŸ‘€Very cool to see there's a house where all your Iris drawings are set, can't wait to see more of her and Maya too. Hope you have a great 2021, and thanks for all the amazing art in 2020πŸ™πŸ™πŸ˜πŸ˜

Crown

Perfectly! I look forward to wonderful scenes where gorgeous ladies will try out interesting places in the house. ; D

Zer0o

Sounds like a good plan. Do you want/need help with the modelling/texturing?

Gola Martinez

Great planning! Love the visual map, sure helps a lot, esp. for you, and us as well. Would love to see Iris and Maya meeting up and exploring each other. It'd make a nice visual story. 2020 has been unique, indeed, glad to have you with us, hopefully in many more years to come!

Thank you Krys. Your gift and dedication is appreciated, and your art definitely helped lighten the past year.
