A really underrated film. I like it because it is relatively true to the experience of many top boxers in the 20th century. Joe Louis was America's hero and had a fight that symbolised the America vs. Nazi Germany conflict, just like Rocky and the America vs. USSR conflict. Yet Louis went broke and developed brain damage. He became a greeter at a casino and had to do many public experiences even when he was losing his speech, just to minimise his money problems. Muhammad Ali was one of the most famous people in the world, but famously suffered from Parkinson's Syndrome and became broke soon after retiring. He had two more fights that created even more problems and became a symbol of the dangers of boxing. Sugar Ray Robinson, Ezzard Charles, and many more... Mike Tyson is not brain-damaged, but he went bankrupt in 2003 despite earning hundreds of millions of dollars. There are many happy stories in boxing that are similar to the first four films, but also many tragedies. Due to better medical surveillance, more opportunities to make money, and greater awareness of the need for honest financial management, these tragedies are rarer now. However, Rocky V stands out for me in the series as having its own merit of being more realistic and also for having a message of hope in its tragedy. Even though it's the worst in the series, it is still a good film!
2022-08-23 23:21:53 +0000 UTCWhen you say "preoccupied" I think you mean "worried". I know in Spanish it's "preocupada" so I can see why'd you make that mistake. I did the same thing with the word "embarrassed", I said one time "estoy embarazado" and it got a lot of laughs from my family ๐
