behind the scenes of açaí
Added 2023-03-01 20:12:00 +0000 UTCA lil BTS of what a session looks and sounds like. This is 2 hours edited into 1 minute of trying to find the right guitar, right guitar tone and right guitar part. AND…! *Drumroll please* We didn’t even end up using any of it, and used a bass instead.
Elliott’s playing through sounds and that’s how it usually starts. Then, I’ll immediately be like “FUCK YEAH! I love it!”. Next he’ll lay it in the track and we’ll look at each other and go “oh /: that’s not it”.
So weird how many micro decisions go into one part, let alone the whole song.
In the video, Elliott does a pass playing 8th notes and then a pass playing 16th notes (think ‘Edge of Seventeen‘ intro) and it’s crazy how we heard it back and didn’t like it but still want that 16th note to be there, so we’ll look at a synth part or a drum part to see if all pops open.
One session for one song could be 5-8 hours long and this is what it looks like at the end of it, scraping everything you did but at least knowing what you DON’T want.
