Buffy the Vampire Slayer: 6x4 Full Reaction

Agree. I always assumed that the council are old fashioned and they expected the watcher to look after the slayer in terms of life if they're an adult. The council are very misogynistic and with history women are the ones who don't traditionally get paid for doing their 'job' as mothers and maintaining a house. So I always saw the slayer/water dynamic in a similar way. But the council never caught up to modern times... when they should have!

there's nothing in the text that says they're living here rent free

The council never has viewed slayers as anything more than a weapon to them. They lowkey try to kill them themselves when a slayer turns 18. They don’t expect a slayer to have to deal with day to day life and expenses cuz they don’t really imagine a slayer making it that far into their lives.

i kinda get the feeling that the show just isn't interested in Buffy's father as a character.

Buffy is having financial problems -- cut to three jokers covered in money, burning it to light their cigars. You never know what in Buffy is throw-away dialog and what is part of the grand design of the show, so its funny the show is aware of its past like that and things are set up to build on. Some of the things are never actually shown but only implied. I mean in the High School years there was a lot of stoner humor and "partying" going on and it seemed the gang was hip to it all, but rarely did you see them obviously high. They often use magic in place of drugs on this show, with vamps compared to addicts living in abandoned places, and all ragged. Buffy season 4 episode 1 had some actual stoner vampires living in an abandoned frat house. Spike likes to get a bit tanked now and then, and there is talk among vampires about drinking the blood of people on drugs, etc. The Watchers Council has no problem drugging people up. Even Giles used to "get high" on magic back in the day, and it came back to bite him. Buffy had some funky beer one time, too, and they did a call back to it on this ep, with her "fire pretty" comment, which was easy to miss unless you have seen every episode, including "Beer Bad". It was funny you talked about Buffy being emotionally undeveloped for her new "mom" role, but not about the amazingly juvenile and toxic manosphere attitudes of the three boys. They started talking about hypnotising girls to have sex with them, making them their sex slaves, and of course Warren is into sex robots, his own and the Buffybot. I thought Jonathan was cool with Buffy, she did save him several times, when he was going to kill himself (so he said) in the school tower, when he conjured a monster set on getting him when he made the world all about him. He even gave Buffy the Protector Award at the Prom. Willow trying to get Buffy mad by claiming to sleep with her lovers is vile, even if they both knew it was BS. Willow is not OK, and maybe the spell is doing some kind of moral erosion on her. It already made a nasty insult-spouting demon thing that terrorized the gang, but it knew everything Willow knew like a dark mirror, and it was female as well. Willows anger came out big time last season, and she is kinda into revenge trips. Maybe she was just reacting to Giles assuming the "boss man" role like before, when she kinda had it with him gone.

I know some people complain about season six, but I loved it several very very memorable episodes from this season and I love how the season begins and what it leads up to at the ending. I can’t get too specific because I’m trying not to do any spoilers but to me season six was in the top three of the entire series.

I know a person has to pay hospital bills but when it comes to living expenses hospital bills are last you don’t pay all your life savings on a hospital bill so that part was stupid especially with Dawn still alive how did they expect her to survive because there dad was definitely not helping that money should’ve been put in a savings account for her I was always bothered how this show handled money because why didn’t the council pay Buffy to be the slayer They paid Giles to be the watcher but she gets nothing. Wtf

So glad to see you back watching Buffy, oh and I love lamp too

Thinking about Willow's interaction with Giles... I am recalling a couple of things related to Willow's youth. Willow was always the nerdy wallflower, so to speak, with all the potential insecurities inherent with such a thing. One of those was her entire friendship with Xander colored by her crushing on him and knowing that she could never get his lasting notice as a romantic connection. Now she has a seeming exponential access to power after never having any previously and as her response to fractures in her relationship to Oz and overreaction to Tara's concern to the power she was able to harness so quickly indicates, she responds to problems and anything that bruises her ego in an emotional and dangerous fashion. Also yes, Willow is showing signs of juvenile arrogance with her relatively newfound power. Looking forward to more developments.

"No weapons I could see, but still ... (looks up) ... real dangerous." *cut to Giles standing there* Perfect moment.

Oh honey, the emotion in your eyes when Buffy & Giles were reunited 🥹 - We all felt it too but it must have been even more difficult for you to watch just now. Sending love ❤️

Regarding the makeup of the three nerds, the reason you don't recognize the third one was because it was originally supposed to be Tucker (The guy with the prom hellhounds) but the actor couldn't return. So they invented Andrew, said he was Tucker's brother, and made jokes about people constantly forgetting Andrew and mixing him up with Tucker. An angle that I didn't catch myself until I saw it pointed out by somebody else, is that these financial difficulties didn't HAVE to be here. The Scoobies had viable solutions that they could have taken during the time that Buffy was dead, but they skipped them in the hope that Buffy would come back and it would be her responsibility again. First off: Dawn has a father, who has a job, and is legally responsible for providing for her. The memory re-write when the monks created Dawn turned him into an absentee dad, but the gang never even contacted him to inform him that Buffy had died. If they'd even attempted to contact him he may have paid for the house and given Dawn an allowance. Secondly: Willow and Tara are living in the Summers home, and apparently aren't paying rent or even maintenance fees for the house upkeep. They could have -- SHOULD have -- been paying some of the bills all along. But they didn't want to inform Hank about Buffy's death in case he tried to move Dawn in with him, and they never wanted to assume responsibility for the home. Does that make them villains? No, of course not. But it does make it even more clear that their actions were more about making themselves feel better than it was about actually doing what was best for Buffy or Dawn.

I know it goes against some of the points raised in this episode, but did Willow and Tara not look for magic spells that could fix things, maybe unflood the basement?

James Smith

So incredibly annoying that the council does not help fund the slayers. Are the Watchers not employed by them?? I would assume Giles was paid by the council, but not Buffy? How could they possibly assume that the Slayer can properly fight and not die young if she would also have to worry about day to day life of paying bills.

It was Willow who called Angel if you remember, Cordelia runs out to Angel who is outside with Fred and says "Angel, Willow's on the phone, she's alive... Buffy's alive"

Cambo

I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother ❤️ we all love you!

Buffy needs to get a job, yeah. She already has a job, but we've established she can't bill the innocents she saves every night. It's bs that the watchers council doesn't provide a stipend for the Slayer... more typical bs from them. You know what else tho? You know who also could get a job? Willow and Tara!! Who are currently living in her house, for free!!! That always pisses me off.

I'm not sure that anyone in particular called Angel Inc. rather it was more of a heard it through the grapevine, news travels fast sorta deal and now they're calling back
