watching this again... the part when Evelyn realizes her life could have been very different - I see now that the first person she wanted to tell was her husband. She didn't realize how highly she thought of him because her first thought was to tell him about this new great revelation...
Even though... this revelation was how great her life was without him. I can see the absurdity in that. Didn't we all just understood that telling him was so wrong... yet she was too amazed to realize that... and how she so much desired for him to know, she wanted to share it with him. She wanted him to be "in on it" yet this alternate journey was without him. A complete paradox. Just another little thing that was woven into this tale. Wasn't that point in the movie always confusing?

The action is great, the comedy is great, the multiverse was good in a jokey or absurdist way or in a non-serious way but again I must have been to focused on that aspect to be somehow much better than it was, it was actually straightforward with some gadgetry to make it happen and to obfuscate the details. The multiverse concept is just the road, but the road is not what's great about a trip, it's the roses on the side of the road that you stop to smell, and the sights to see and the places and the experiences, it's everything else but the road. It's the lessons and what you take away with you.

Cass... I'm just ten months late but I just watched your reaction and of course I love it and in the end you really wanted to know people's reaction to this movie and this is "lifetimes later" but... I was actually spoiled before I watched this movie and so I didn't get it, I couldn't figure out what the hype was all about. I had to watch many reactions to this movie and I watched therapists watch this movie and now I really really like it. It was spoiled to me when someone said it was the best multiverse movie... and I came in with what I didn't know at the time, I had high expectations of a multiverse execution that would surpass anything before and no it was not that. This movie is not great because of that, it's good because of the emotional connections and you could say the healing that it gives people, in a way it's about healing because that's what they're doing the entire time. The chaos of the multiverse aspect of the movie is just to represent the many-layered aspects of our own world and the multi-tasking and the technological complexity of living and surviving through modern society these days. Yes it could be that.

Ah... I have to say that you should have watched Into The Spider-verse first. And also watched the What If... series because those two introduce the multiverse in a better way. Those two before Spider-man No Way Home, and before Multiverse of Madness. Yes it's a spoiler to tell you this fact but you've probably passed that point anyway, can't undo the order. Just like in this movie you are not supposed to come for the multiverse angle - you're supposed to be sideswiped unaware with the multiverse concepts and then it all works out. That's my explanation of why multiverse stories disappoint and that is also a spoiler for those who haven't seen those later movies yet. I do agree they're too cavalier about the stories and it's because they've let go of the discipline they had when they were working to create the Infinity Stones saga. Anyway I'm just defending them by pointing out the two good versions that came first - it doesn't excuse bad writing later but at least there's a kind of protective sheen over the whole of things.

I really liked this movie and how it incorporated really important issues into an insane story. Though through everything, it made sense. Also, it's a better take on the multiversal concept than the MCU has done so far. Except Loki, I loved Loki. Hopefully the next Ant-Man movie can improve on mutiversal, quantum events. Ok, ranting about Marvel lol, back to Best Pictures. I am halfway through the Nominees. The only one I have no interest in is Avatar because I never bothered seeing the first one. I'm thinking of renting The Fablemans on my day off tomorrow (Spielberg movie, based on his childhood dreams of making movies). It's the one I'm really looking forward to. I can't wait to see your journey through the Nominees and go along for the ride. Seriously, some Best Pictures are actually REALLY GOOD. If you ever want a guide, I'm here. I have an insane love for film and a collection to prove it lol. All the best đŹ
