Russ Pinup: Okay... sooooo, admittedly got a little out of control with this one. Thought "Oh yeah adding a couple background elements to a piece! Easy, simple! Not a single problem! I was wrong and my "Gotta make this the best" brain took over. Took on a little too much for what was made, but THAT'S okay! Just means I can course correct in the future and hardcore limit my scope to fit the price better!
This was however very gratifying to work on. Pieces like this typically have a "SNAP" quality, and that happened for me after stepping away for a bit, looking up James Gurney's advice on window lighting, and getting the colors to snap into place and ding dang, it REALLY works for like a relaxing atmosphere that you can really breath in. Next one, I'm gonna try that but with fewer elements and using colors and shapes to create the atmosphere rather than fully detailed objects that need to be treated individually!
Virgil Pinup: I wanted to capture the feelings of autumn in this picture! The crunch of leaves, the rusty colors of the trees, the cool wind of the coming winters, the downward motion of leaves freshly falling off the trees, wrapping oneself up in warmer clothes as the still warm sun combats the breeze, both forces at war for your comfort! That's what Fall is to me!
Fractal Pinup: This one was one big thing that was outside of my comfort zone! For whatever reason cityscapes just evade my understanding! Fortunately this was referencing a real world location for the commissioner. It was built up with themes of unsureness and a particular decision needing to be made, as deadlines on when they need to be made threaten their consequences! To feed into that unsureness I wanted to make the brushstrokes much more visible and recognizable as brush strokes so that they might add the turbulence of mutually exclusive directional forces. A visual metaphor! What's even a meta for?
Michael Huntix Pinup: A piece for WelshyRhys, who prefers just "Rhys". They wanted a piece of their boy on the shore of a beach they remembered from when they were younger! This was built with the themes of relaxation, freedom, and being at sea!
Sandalf Pinup: Draggie has been summoned! From where? That wasn't in the description! Draggie wanted to be depicted as a summoned demon with a looming, intimidating pressence! Haunting and inevitable!
