Smoochagram: Marrow and Toaster (Step by Step)

Step 1: Ideation- kept private for personal info sharing reasons! A hungry closeness is what I'm aiming for! Transient and vulnerable! The original idea was flopped overtop Toast's shoulder which fortunately can be made to fit these things,
Step 2- Sketch- I need to come up with a pose that incorporates a hungry closeness which I think is expressed through form, by pushing the difference in size. Marrow's silhuoette literally consuming Toaster's. The transience will be expressed through pastel/ water colors and the vulnerability will be expressed through hands. Overlapping hands one on top of the other implies
a guidance. Sex itself is an act of vulnerability I think, and having guiding hands I think not only represents an acceptance of that vulnerability but an encouraging of it.
Step 3- Mood board- I've built up a series of images that will help me with both form and also with capturing the general vibe of what I'm going for as established through ideation by talking with my commissioner 1 on 1!
Step 4- Refine sketch- Touch! I work hard to give every smoochagram a tangible sense of touch. Taking ref shots, where the fingers go. What the hands are doing. Along with facial features and expressions. It's not something I can yet do with just painting yet.
Step 5- Colors- My thinking here was to mix purples and yellows, as I think of this color combination such a rare sight in nature which helps contribute to the transient feeling!
Step 6- Colors Again- Colors are my playground so it's really more about feeling things out at this point! If I think a color will look good somewhere, I put it down with.... mmmh a decent amount of regard for the local color. As long as you don't break the value structure (the shadows and the shapes thereof) and the context of the local color (the color an object is) you can
choose just about any color you want!
