I really appreciate your enthusiasm and commentary. Wondering if you’ll be uploading any Madonna related reactions soon. I joined your Patreon a couple of weeks ago specifically for those reactions - and trying to figure out if once or twice a month is pretty much how often you post Madonna related content. I know you were sick for a couple of weeks. Hope you’re feeling better

Madonna asked to self produce this album and Sire/Warner refused but said she could pick the producer and she chose Nile Rodgers frontman of Chic who was coming off producing the most successful albums for Diana Ross (I'm Coming Out) and David Bowie(Let's Dance), her idol. Nile she was the first one in the studio every day and the last one to leave and she came in with 7 songs already, Like A Virgin and Material Girl which she didn't write and Angel, Over and Over, Shoo-Bee-Do, Stay and Pretender all of which she did write He brought in Dress You Up and Love Don't Live Here Anymore. He has said she was more or less a de facto producer on the album making her suggestions and offering ideas and pushing her weight. Rodgers, Warner Execs and her management wanted the album to be called Material Girl and Material Girl to be the first single. She demanded Like A Virgin as the album name and first single saying preteen and teenage girls and young adult women would go crazy for it. She ended up getting her way and Rodgers said learned to never doubt her. The album was completed May of 84 and Warner shelved it hoping to get more sales out of The First Album. She performed LAV on the very first MTV VMA's forcing the release of the album and single. Like A Virgin became her first #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 and LAV became the first album by a solo female artist to sell more than 5 million copies, more than 10 million copies, more than 15 million copies and more than 20 million copies becoming one of the highest selling albums of the 80s. It established Madonna as the biggest female artist in rock history. It's my least favorite Madonna album

I am so glad you are doing Madonna’s albums, she was so iconic in pop music. My favorite album is True Blue, I listened to it so much when it came out it has two of my favorite songs, Like a Prayer is great too. It’s going to be interesting to hear how she changes from album to album. Also Material Girl is one of my favorite videos, next to the Like a Prayer video…

I was super worried you wouldn’t like this album. It’s not as “punk” as the first album and is, in my opinion a little too commercial. And, honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if that was a calculated move by a shrewd artist/businesswoman like Madonna.

unpopular opinion, Like a Virgin is her weakest album, and it’s a big one as you just discovered. maybe in one year you’ll understand me. great video! my 3 favs: 3- Over and Over, 2- Love Don’t Live here Anymore, 1- Dress you Up

Based on your reaction to this album, I wonder what you would do with hearing Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morrissette. Madonna had a hand in making her first album possible. I think you would enjoy it.
