McFly - Above The Noise Album Listening Party/Uncut Reaction

McFly - Above The Noise Album Listening Party/Uncut Reaction

Comments

There are a few tracks on their “All The Greatest Hits” album that were exclusive to that album that I hope you react to: The Way You Make Me Feel and Don’t Wake Me Up

Signe A.

I absolutely love that you love That’s the truth, my favourite song from this album. This album was at the point in their career where they were trying to get back to the number 1 spots and the music is very representative of the dancy pop style that was big here in the UK at the time. It’s why a lot of fans hate this album because it was like they were trying to become mainstream and change what we love so much about them, that rocky pop punk edge they have.

Natasha

That's The Truth has always been my favourite on this album. Wish they'd play it more live!

Beynon14

Huge McFly fan here, but I haven’t listened to this whole album (song by song) for years! I agree that Tom’s voice is great on this record 😊 I hope your next McFly album reaction is “The Lost Songs”!!

Astrid Yirrell

Definitely, and just my luck 🤣

Tasha Clarke

he should watch the boys react to nowhere left to run 🤣

evie

Finished watching now, absolutely Tom's voice is incredible! Listening back to old albums makes me realise how much he used to sing! It was really 50-50 between him and Danny, but newer albums he doesn't sing as much because he's had medical issues with his throat. I wish there were better videos of the time Tom pretty much lost his voice mid-tour and Dougie took over for him! We need more Dougie singing

Tasha Clarke

I hope no one makes you watch the movie they made to promote this album (yep movie) because you might change your opinion on them 🤣 Ive always loved this album, no matter how much a lot of people (including McFly themselves) hate it, but always love it live way more, hope you can react to the live albums one day (justice for foolish though they cut it short live)

Tasha Clarke

I feel this was the begining of the mcfly’s hiatus… but in music you need to experiment so… But yes, thank god they came back more to the rock side 😌

Ana

The vocals on this album are the best thing about this album. I agree with everyone else that the live version is so much better and it's the way it should be heard! Please listen to the Lost Songs next - some of my fav McFly songs are on there

Alice McLaren

Ah ok I thought it it was his and he gave it to them. Learn something new every day 😁

Danny O'Malley

My understanding is that If U C Kate was co-written with J C? Totally agree the live and acoustic versions are far superior and well worth checking out 🙂

ZedMC

you pretty much hit the Nail on the head with this album, some bangers and some songs u can forget about

lee reynolds

End of the World actually samples War of the Worlds which is pretty cool and the bassline in I Need a Woman is pretty much that of My Girl. This album plays sooo much better live - you should at some point hear their Anthology album which really made me hear it in a new light (up until them I was super meh about it). I'd argue that this is actually a better album than Young Dumb Thrills which just feels a bit lazy whereas at least here they've tried to experiment and go for a cohesive sound. Foolish is totally slept on, and both Take Me There and That's the Truth sound much/even better live. This Song can't be redeemed however!

This album pretty much divided the fandom in two. On one side there’s those who love it and the other side is those who basically ignore it even existed. I think a large portion of that is the massive genre shift between Radio:ACTIVE to this made a lot of people go “what the fuck”. Plus this album they signed with a record label again (which they didn’t do with RA due to disagreements- that was released independently on their own label) so it didn’t feel so authentic. Whilst I will say it’s my least favourite album of theirs, there absolutely is some bangers on it (I know you said you weren’t keen on Take Me There but that one live is WOW). If you’ll remember from the All About Us documentary- Tom confessed he got into the thought process of writing music to be a hit and not because he wanted to, and you can feel that on at least a couple on this record. Some facts to know: 1. Niall has said Shine a Light is his favourite McFly song (and if you didn’t know, McFly were actually the first gig he and Louis went to when they were like 10/11). 2. Yes, Taio Cruz sings. He had the song Dynamite in 2010 which was EVERYWHERE. Couldn’t go anywhere without hearing that song. 3. They all detest Party Girl with a passion. They’ve said if there’s one song they regret making it was that one. The fandom bullied them into playing it for their 21st anniversary show and they were not happy about it lol. 4. That’s the Truth is 100% slept on. Whilst it was a single it got little to no promotion but for good reason- Dougie was in rehab, and they didn’t want to promote a single a band member down. 5. Every album name drops the name of the album at some point. I can’t remember which one on Radio:ACTIVE they do but for the others it’s: Room on the 3rd Floor (title track), Wonderland (Ultraviolet), Motion in the Ocean (Please Please), Above the Noise (Shine a Light).

And not forgetting Danny's rap in End Of The World 😂😂https://youtu.be/wpTsTk1tvaI?si=liaO1W51glW1DDJF But this album is one of those albums that hearing it live, beats the album version.

Jamie Marie Pace

this just made me realise take me there on the record is meh...but I LOVE it live!

Ellie webb

Like you said I think this album fit the music trends at the time it was released but it wasn't a fan favourite. For a lot of fans, the live versions of the songs are better than the album. They did a Valentine's day gig which has great live versions of I'll Be Your Man and I Need A Woman. I think you've seen some of that already.

Katie

I love McFly but this isn’t their best album. It’s the only tour I missed because by the time I realised there was a tour, it had sold out. Saying that, there’s a few tracks I really enjoy and the vocals are great. The guitar break in End of the World is from Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds which is worth checking out if you have a couple of hours. Incidentally, Tom’s sister was in a touring production of that and Charle Simpson from Busted is in this years tour. Anyone who has seen the Party Girl video can’t help but hear Danny shout ‘Dougie, don’t go into the woods’ halfway through!!

Sarah M

Above the noise is mcflys least favourite album Check out the videos for nowhere left to run

Jennifer Clarke

Remember, you watched Nowhere Left To Run live on the KCAPL tour over a year ago. It's one of the ones that got lost when you tried transferring reactions to a playlist last year 😭 It's a million times better in that performance too 🤩

Debbie Bushby

Sorry for the spam but please for the love of all mankind don't skip the lost songs album. It's epic. 🤣

Danny O'Malley

If u c kate was written by Jc Chasez from nsync. One of a few songs mcfly haven't wrote. There's his version of it on youtube. Also taio cruz sang dynamite which mcfly covered.

Danny O'Malley

Take me there, nowhere left to run and if u c kate live versions on the anthology tour is amazing with guitars and danny going for it. The live versions are on Spotify probably iTunes too. I mean the whole album live sh*ts on the recorded version. When i listen to above the noise I look for live version.
